sc_neo Posted April 26, 2020 Posted April 26, 2020 Hey guys, i am thinking of moving up the eastern ladder from the L-39 to the Mig-21. But i have not really kept in touch with the ins and outs of this modules dev. cycle and issues. Yes, it's not EA anymore, but i recall some issues that have been mentioned in the past of which i am not sure which are still a thing. So i'd be interested to gather an overview of what new and longstanding bugs this module has, which features are still missing or are implemented in a simplified way. What i am aware of is the following (correct me if not correct): 1. New cockpit textures are still not available 2. New afterburner look not implemented 3. "Arcady" CCIP bombing mode still present 4. Recently (ED mishap?) FM issues I kinda fear that although this is not EA anymore, if i buy the module now, it still might feel like i might have to wait a very long and uncertain time until the new cockpit arrives for instance. Any ideas when this might be implemented? Any other major bugs?
YSIAD_RIP Posted April 26, 2020 Posted April 26, 2020 I am in the same situation - currently doing some MiG shopping and using the Free to Fly month for comparisons to the MiG-15 and MiG-19. It is fascinating to see the evolution of Russian Plane development over the years in comparing the planes. Regarding Issues: There is a Bugtracker link that the developer, Magnitude 3 LLC, has asked us to use to report problems. It looked promising mainly because there is a lot of recent activity in April. Here is the link for reference, as it may help you decide. https://leatherneck-sim.mantishub.io/my_view_page.php Do not own: | F-15E | JF-17 | Fw 190 A-8 | Bf 109 | Hardware: [ - Ryzen7-5800X - 64GB - RX 6800 - X56 HOTAS Throttle - WINWING Orion 2 F16EX Grip - TrackIR 5 - Tobii 5C - JetPad FSE - ]
kengou Posted April 26, 2020 Posted April 26, 2020 Seems generally ok to me except the flight model Which seems a little weird right now based on reports. If that continues to be tweaked I think it’ll be ok. Harle Posted April 26, 2020 Posted April 26, 2020 Any other major bugs? Aiming reticle doesn't work as it should in AG gun mode. It's just stuck motionless in the center.

Any ideas when this might be implemented? Any other major bugs? Those 4 issues you named are pretty spot-on. I'm also waiting for them to get fixed/implemented. But besides that the MiG-21 is a pretty well working module, much better than a lot of the other modules in DCS right now and the devs are still actively working on it, despite it being out of EA. sc_neo Posted April 27, 2020 Author Posted April 27, 2020 Did Magnitude state that they intend to code a proper bomb delivery system to replace the fake ccip?
QuiGon Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 Did Magnitude state that they intend to code a proper bomb delivery system to replace the fake ccip? Not that I'm aware of. portman Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 (edited) This module is being praised on the DCS website as "designed from the ground up to faithfully recreate and simulate all interior avionics to their fullest extent". ARC-10: Switch COMP-ANT Sim: Without a function. Real life: COMP. lets you hear the morse code of the beacon; ANT shows the direction to the beacon Radio: Switch RADIO-COMP. is not implemented correctly Sim: RADIO lets you hear the radio chatter; COMP. lets you hear the morse code of the beacon Real life: RADIO lets you hear the radio chatter; COMP. shows the direction to the radio beacon SORC lamp must be pressed several times if multiple warnings are present - not like in RL. SORC lamp goes out if the reason of the warning is not present anymore - not like in RL. SAU stabilize mode does not counterbalance assymmetrical loadout, like in RL. Radar: In the real thing, using the radar jamming filters results in a lock of the radar range to 8-12 km and throttle rotator can be used to adjust the sensivity of the radar antenna, thus changing the appearance of the clutter on the screen. This is not implemented, AFAIK. RSBN: Manual mode (azimuth, distance switches) is not implemented. ARK implementation is still completely unrealistic. This module has been out for 7 years now, still I can't call it a simulation.

I'd rather have the visual aspect and sounds finished first (new textures and external model corrections, AB etc.) than the stuff you mentioned.

I'd rather have the visual aspect and sounds finished first (new textures and external model corrections, AB etc.) than the stuff you mentioned. Fair enough. To me avionics and navigation are top priorities, as in the first place I'd like to fly and not to look at my fancy AB textures.
TLTeo Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 Also the anti-jamming features on the radar likely can't be simulated because jamming in DCS is nonsense for every module anyway. Not that it's a good thing, but I feel like it's something M3 have no control over.
sc_neo Posted April 28, 2020 Author Posted April 28, 2020 But is there a timeframe when the new cockpit will arrive? Or is this one of those moments where work will continue only after their next module has been released, i.e. uncertain timeframe of many months or even years?
TLTeo Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 They have not announced a date yet. It's one of those "it's ready when it's ready" situations.
CoBlue Posted April 30, 2020 Posted April 30, 2020 I advise not to buy it. The Mig-21 has many bugs & the devs don't want to engage in an open customer communication.....so nobody knows what's going on. i7 8700k@4.7, 1080ti, DDR4 32GB, 2x SSD , HD 2TB, W10, ASUS 27", TrackIr5, TMWH, X-56, GProR.
zebra0312 Posted April 30, 2020 Posted April 30, 2020 Cockpit itself is done but it needs to be implemented into the plane. And Dolphin is working on F4U rn because they have a contract with ED to deliver it. Also it doesnt make much sense to implement many new features now when the plane gets a new cockpit model anyway. Servus! :smilewink: My DCS:World-Modules: A-10C, UH-1H, F-86F, Fw-190D9, MiG-21bis, P-51D, Mi-8MTV2,Bf-109K4, MiG-15bis, L-39C, Hawk, NTTR, Mirage 2000C, SA342M Gazelle. Wishlist: P-40, F-104G/S, Saab J-35 Draken, A-1H Skyraider, Su-17/22M4. :music_whistling:
WinterH Posted April 30, 2020 Posted April 30, 2020 When it works right, this is one of the loveliest modules in DCS, and a favorite of mine. But then there are times where things get broken like now. I don't know what to say for a flight model to have changed pretty radically like 6-7 times or so, even so many years after it's been out. Especially as the lead developer was an active duty MiG-21Bis pilot when the module was released, I believe he's flying a MiG-29 now but not sure, he may still be active with the 21. As for the cockpit though, well un-updated cocpit still looks lovely in my opinion, so I wouldn't count that one as an issue, it will arrive eventually anyway. I'd still say get it not that it is %50 off, and that you can try it for free for a couple weeks more at least to see for yourself if you deem it worth giving the chance. Wishlist: F-4E Block 53 +, MiG-27K, Su-17M3 or M4, AH-1F or W circa 80s or early 90s, J35 Draken, Kfir C7, Mirage III/V DCS-Dismounts Script
Kovacs Posted April 30, 2020 Posted April 30, 2020
