One thing that kinda bugs me a little bit is the feeling that when I'm on the ground, inside the cockpit, most DCS planes feel like they are about the same height above the tarmac. I don't have any real life experience (other than Cessna 172 and Piper Warrior), but I'm guessing that the cockpit of a Su-27 or an F-15 should probably be a lot higher above the ground than that of an F5. Some planes, like the MiG-15 feel "right". Others feel kinda weird. Again, this is just a personal feeling not backed by real life experiences. Just curious if anyone else shares the same feeling...

You are sitting at high with Su-27S, as in VR when I am landing it still caughts me by the landing gear height from the ground after I have been flying Su-25 or F/A-18C. The F-16C is the "worst" in this case, as it and its "sparrow legs" are like ultra extended from the "bottom feel" of pants and it is surprising how often I flare just that one meter too low if not careful.

I believe the problem is not in the aircrafts heights as those are very carefully done (but must be said that there are confusing problems in the cockpits sizes) but I think there are many problems in the world sizes by lack of small details on ground, where grass is fairly ultra tall and the Caucasus terrain still is very flat all around (not that there should be any pumps or such around airfield) and trees are all same height basically. But maybe the most problems causing height problems is just that some vehicles just looks super small, like the KAMAZ-7850 or MAZ-7917 feels super low when sitting in the UH-1H parked next to them.

The standard airfield is as well very empty, so when you are on the parking slot, you don't have the ground crew around you, their equipments are lacking, no fuel trucks etc anywhere. So you need to add those all around you to start getting the "height" feeling.

But if you are not flying in VR, you are missing A LOT about the height experience.

It is literally a completely another experience when you sit in cockpit in VR. As you really are seeing the altitude differently. Once you learn the aircraft altitude on wheels, you can do very fine landings by just the feeling.

Fri, you repeat accusations of wrong object sizes without showing any screenshot. If you don't have VR the least you could do to get better RL feeling is to set your FoV right.

I don't get that point, there are many different hights of trees. Fly a helicopter more often ;)

The Gazelle is probably the lowest to the ground seat position of all the aircraft in DCS, and it's very noticeable; like sitting in a helicopter go kart.

Sit in the Mi -8 then sit in the Gazelle.

I've also noticed this. I primarily fly the Hornet and I can anticipate my landing almost perfectly. In the Viper, it often takes me by surprise and I land harder than intended.

Hi

Position is correct, if you get a chance to try in VR you may notice the difference more.

thanks

Quite true. When I first started using VR I was forever smacking my A-10C into the tarmac way too hard because I was constantly misjudging the height.
