My Controller Layout PDFs

For years I've been drawing PDF controller layouts to help me plan and remember my button mapping for various games and DCS modules. I've now built up a decent collection, started drawing some for friends, and thought others might get some use out of them as well. So I cleaned up some of my older ones and bundled them all into a package for people to download.

 

Each one is a form-fillable PDF, with each button box being able to fit three lines of text.

Alright, I've had a few people ask me about drawing other controllers and I'd love to. I am a professional stage lighting designer, and so with the current pandemic I'm out of work for the foreseeable future; drafting is both a fun distraction from house projects and a good way to stay sharp with one of the very few professional tasks I can actually do at home.

 

Since I'm a draftsman, my process is typically very hands-on for these, using a caliper to draw every button to scale. I have done a few remotely though, and have found a process that works better than I'd expected. If anyone has a controller they'd like me to draw, I will need two things from you:

 

• A good understanding of how the controller works. Other people's layouts are great for this, but I will also probably be asking questions and needing clarification. I'll then be sending you rough drafts to look at and verify I've got all the button actions correct.
   
  
• Photos of the controller. This is the trickiest bit, I need a reference photo of every unique button on the controller as strait-on to the button as possible, and including a ruler or tape measure in the same plane as the button for scale.

Just updated a few files to add flourishes to indicate actions that will hold user input, such as latching switches, toggles, and axes without a spring center. I also fixed an image display issue with the X-56 throttle and added some more detail to the T-50CM Throttle drawings.

For anyone who would like to help me out drawing additional flight controllers, here's an example of what I need. A simple strait-on photo with as little paralax as possible to the buttons and a tape measure or ruler for scale. If there are a bunch of buttons all close together, like in my example, usually a single photo will do it for the group.

Just posted an update which added the VKB Gladiator-K and 4 different versions of the Space Combat Grip (Premium and Base, right and left hand versions of each). I also included two drawings for the Cougar MFDs; one button map in the same style as the controller layouts, and a printable one that can be cut out and inserted in to the MFD.

Just posted an update to this which adds the Warthog throttle, the TM Hornet stick, and a combo file with the Warthog stick and throttle. 

 

I did these two without any help just using internet photos for reference, so they might have some mistakes in a few places. Let me know if you find something that's wrong.
