Please, remove unnecessary liveries from DCS builds. Put them in separate packs

When an anti-cheat mechanism is not effective (if you want to cheat aircraft visibility, you can hack with ReShade, which can't be IC checked) and increases the base game size by 50GB for everyone, it's not a good idea...

Now count the VRAM GB $ cost of those liveries. It's not a secret, VRAM use explodes in multiplayer, while terrain is the same. That's not 1.60$ for 50GB 😋

(And wait the evolution of that 50GB figure in one year...)

It’s a core part of the game. This is a flight simulator and you’re asking to remove one of the chief graphic features of the aircraft themselves. 🤔

Plus again it can be cheating. Some of these games block the shading injectors too since those can be a cheat as well. Probably DCS should too.

Yeah this is another idea, and it addresses the issue that some have brought up with mismatched liveries in MP. If there are low res versions of liveries, they could be downloaded instead to save space while basically looking exactly the same as high res when spotting other planes.

I don't need having rivets modeled on the stuff I destroy, only on the aircraft I fly.

This.

With the new spotting system in VR I can only see darks blobs that I can't even notice which way they're going.

Do we really need 50GB of high resolution liveries for them?

It is, that it may not be for you, or even the majority, is nice for y'all, and is also besides the point.

You can get a 2TB SSD for as little as $65. Literally about the cheapest component of a machine that could run DCS.

Irrelevant, I might have spent my existing budget on other bits of the computer, or on another peripheral, or on modules, or, indeed, blackjack and hookers. What matters is, it is an item of not insignificant size for many budgets where the available moolah is indeed limited, for this or that reason. And thus, it competes with other such things for such budgets.

Once again, "storage is cheap" meme needs to take a step back, a pretty long one at that. It isn't so for some of us, and even if it is, that is not the only reason people want liveries to stop causing a runaway disk occupation. Having to sacrifice this or that important software just so I can do every large sim update got old quite some time ago.

If $65-$100 is a significant amount to anyone, they should maybe re-examine life’s priorities and consider improving their situation rather than worrying about computer games.

Maybe so, maybe not, what's certain is, others' life priorities fit pretty well into "none of your business" category. And again, many of us are concerned with the storage footprint of liveries regardless of availability or affordability of it.

When you say “regardless of availability or affordability” that makes no sense. It seems more like worrying about nothing. I don’t think ED should base their decisions around that.

Absolutely. Even if one can afford a drive, the idea that getting a new one is some kind of be all "solution" is ridiculous. No reasonable person is going to want to throw away money to solve something that could be resolved for free. Looking beyond money, having the option to free up space with a few clicks is far easier than going out and getting a new drive and then installing it, if you even can install it which may or may not be difficult given hardware and your current situation.

Well if people ask ED to curtail or complicate the development of the game for everyone else because they can’t afford simple things… or due to misplaced worry about nothing, what other answer would you expect? This is a luxury pastime. It’s not food or medical care. If you can’t afford it, there are other more important things in life.
This is like asking ED to stop making aircraft or maps cause you can’t afford to buy them or a computer. Fine. Don’t buy them. The game has hardware specs, deal with it. Welcome to PC gaming.

I take it you think the module manager is curtailing and complicating the development of the game, effectively asking ED and other developers to stop making modules, maps and campaigns?
