S. Low Posted June 19, 2020 Posted June 19, 2020 Title sums it up. Whenever I can get the cash together to buy the warthog stick, and whenever they are available again, this is the stick I'm going to get. Currently my T16000 is side mounted to the arm of my computer chair. I'd like to have my warthog center mounted and the only thing I can think of is have it sit on the floor with some sort of weighted base and have an extension bring it up to my lap. I've seen plenty of commercial extensions but they are all straight. I'm interested in the extension being angled near the top so it comes over the seat of my chair and further in to my lap. Is there anything like this out there? If not, what suggestions do ya'll have to build it? PVC pipe or something? Thanks
lxsapper Posted June 19, 2020 Posted June 19, 2020 Virpil has a curved extension but its only 20Cm not enough for a floor mounted.
S. Low Posted June 20, 2020 Author Posted June 20, 2020 Virpil has a curved extension but its only 20Cm not enough for a floor mounted. Maybe I could attach it to something else to get it to the floor? I'll look at it
S. Low Posted June 20, 2020 Author Posted June 20, 2020 Yeah I think this will do the trick. I'll just have to build something for the Warthog base to sit on that can be stabilized on the floor. https://virpil-controls.eu/vpc-flightstick-extension-200mm.html
crash test pilot Posted June 20, 2020 Posted June 20, 2020 Thats what I did: https://imgur.com/gallery/lMl5sxN Have fun!
TWC_Alamo Posted June 20, 2020 Posted June 20, 2020 I did something similar for both my Virpil T50CM2 base with 200mm extension and my TM Warthog Base with 75mm extension. Sorry I couldn't figure out how to make pictures rotate the right way, but you get the idea. VpR81 Posted June 20, 2020 Posted June 20, 2020 I took the Virpil curved extension and attached it on top of an additional straight extension, so i have 35cm in total. Works great for me, but had to switch the original spring for Sahajs blue one. lxsapper Posted June 20, 2020 Posted June 20, 2020 @VpR81 with an extension that big that close to the chair doesn't it hit the chair's before full deflection?
VpR81 Posted June 20, 2020 Posted June 20, 2020 (edited) @VpR81 with an extension that big that close to the chair doesn't it hit the chair's before full deflection? I installed the stick in the perfect position to operate it comfortable while beeing completely leaned back into the seat. In order to make this work, i had to reduce the X and Y axis deflection to 50% via DCS axis settings. 100% deflection with an extension that big on the WH base isn't realistic anyways. With both X and Y axis deflection set to 50% i do now have full deflection nose up exactly when the stick touches the seat and nose down when i'm leaned back and my right arm is fully stretched. This way i have a soft detent at 100% nose up and ~25mm from the grip to my mfd mount at 100% nose down. For rolling left and right, i have full deflection as soon as the grip touches my legs. The stick is still significant more precise and as a side effect this prevents the WH gimbal from beeing damaged. I center mounted the stick half a year ago and it works great. edit: Maybe i should mention that only the straight part of the extension combo hits the chair. Sierra99 Posted June 22, 2020 Posted June 22, 2020 Yeah I think this will do the trick. I'll just have to build something for the Warthog base to sit on that can be stabilized on the floor. https://virpil-controls.eu/vpc-flightstick-extension-200mm.html I am doing the same thing. A buddy has a 3D printer and we designed a short pedestal the Base is fastened to then bolted to the floor of sim seat.. That with 200mm extension puts it right where it should be. Art-J Posted June 22, 2020 Posted June 22, 2020 For what it's worth, my DIY extension with a kink in the middle is 30 cm long and from personal experience with it I can say it's pretty much the longest you can get away with while keeping the full physical angular motion of original Warthog gimbal plus 100% saturation in roll and pitch axis settings (that is for a guy like me, 186 cm tall). At the same time, because of the kink, I didn't have to make cutout in my chair ;). MFG crosswinds are wide enough to provide sufficient "manspread" for full left-right movement. The pic of extension is here: https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3337558&postcount=6 Anything longer will require reducing axis saturation as Vpr81 mentioned above. i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.
Bob_Bushman Posted June 22, 2020 Posted June 22, 2020 (edited) Virpil has a curved extension but its only 20Cm not enough for a floor mounted. Virpil themselves say this was meant to be used in conjunction with the other straight extensions as needed. It also depends greatly with how your seat is from the floor, an office chair nearly two feet off the floor, isn't ideal. In a simpit using something like a car seat that's less than a foot from the floor. One long extension on the bottom, then the s-extension, followed by perhaps a shorter straight on top of that, as needed of course. The shorter throw range of the t50 is starting to make sense.
