Starlight Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 This is a military sim, i.e. a sim which could be operated by military pilots (the A-10 version is currently fielded on many US bases) First, when complaining about Lomac's low FPS, look at these requirements: http://www.metavr.com/vrsgsystemrequirements.html These are the ground vehicles: http://www.metavr.com/products/vrsg/VRSG3Dcontent-mil-land1.html These are some screens: http://www.metavr.com/products/vrsg/vrsgoverview.html http://www.metavr.com/casestudies/fwa10followup.html http://www.metavr.com/casestudies/CASNET.html http://www.metavr.com/products/vrsg/IG.html It's really good (i'd love to give it a try!), but compared to LockOn sources, resources and costs, I think I could say that LockOn RULEZ!!!!! ;)
ThirdELTPoznan Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 WOW!! It would be cool if we could play that sim... GROM- Grupa Reagowania Operacyjno Manewrowego
S77th-GOYA Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 Notice in the CASNET link, they're getting 73FPS with a 9800XT low over a city.
wsoul2k Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 WOW!! It would be cool if we could play that sim... Some day lomac will sport this Ability to exploit a multiple-CPU computer to support asynchronous paging of both terrain geometry and texture Rodrigo Monteiro LOCKON 1.12 AMD 3.8 X2 64 2G DDR ATI X1800XT 512 SAITEK X-36 AND VERY SOON TRACKIR-4
wsoul2k Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 Notice in the CASNET link, they're getting 73FPS with a 9800XT low over a city. Btw i think the most important thing is the FM and missile FM model becaus it is a Militar SIM it should be the most acurate possible Rodrigo Monteiro LOCKON 1.12 AMD 3.8 X2 64 2G DDR ATI X1800XT 512 SAITEK X-36 AND VERY SOON TRACKIR-4
Starlight Posted December 8, 2004 Author Posted December 8, 2004 Notice in the CASNET link, they're getting 73FPS with a 9800XT low over a city. polygon count=65,962 maybe it's actually a lower detail level than Lock On. Flaming Cliffs' Su-25T alone is said to have about 52,000 polygons and also look at these specs of the pc they're using: # Intel Pentium-4 3.0GHz Processor w/ 1MB Cache (800MHz FSB) # 2GB PC3200/DDR400 DUAL CHANNEL RAM, (2 - 1GB), 2 Slots 2 GB of dual channel DDR400 is not common in our PCs. Nothing special, but it's not very common. In a similar scene I can get more than 20 FPS with a Radeon 9800 Pro with 128 MB RAM, Athlon XP 3200 and 1 GB (not dual-channel) DDR400 RAM (Cl 2.5). Keep in mind that this simulator may have a more optimized code, and if it wanna sell it must be smooth! Quote: "MetaVR VRSG and WorldPerfect are multi-threaded applications that take advantage of the hyper-threading virtual dual CPU mode for enhanced performance" http://www.metavr.com/ig-cube.html 12,260 $ USD??????? What the hell is that???? I can buy one for about one tenth of that price!
britgliderpilot Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 Notice in the CASNET link, they're getting 73FPS with a 9800XT low over a city. Yes, but look at the textures, 3d-modelling, and shading compared to Lomac . . . . . Graphics wise, it looks like Falcon 4 - a bit dated. The modelling of classified systems is what would make this so vastly impressive . . . . http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/britgliderpilot/BS2Britgliderpilot-1.jpg
SimFan Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 What I fail to understand ! What is beyond me is why some people are not satisfied with Lockon v1.02. Now I know, nice visuals are only one of the many features of a simulator, but still. But Lockon is not bad at all in other area's either. IMHO LockOn is worth at least ten times what we payed for it (not taking into account it can now be had for 10 USD). This simulator sure is nice as well, but who says the modelling would be vastly superior to LockOn ? This of course does not mean I would not love to get to actually sit into a simulator like the one shown in one of the pictures. I wonder, would this setup also be able to run LockOn ? :) LockON is IT ! AMD 3500+ - GF6800GT - 1GB RAM low tatency - MSI NEO2 PLatinum 20" BENQ S-IPS TFT 1600X1200 - 32 bit color
Trident Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 Notice in the CASNET link, they're getting 73FPS with a 9800XT low over a city. Yep, but then again the 'city' is pretty pathetic compared to what we have in LOMAC. Either the buildings are only drawn out to a few hundred metres (imagine the pop-up!) or there really are only a few 3D houses there, like BGP suggests (see also Falcon4).
S77th-GOYA Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 The ground textures look kinda weak too. Reminds me of MSFS with no add-ons. It was just an observation. Relax folks.
ivan_v4 Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 Lol, did you see the su 33 model. It has two seats. http://www.metavr.com/products/vrsg/VRSG3Dcontent-mil-air3.html

Also do the airbases look like they are straight out of FF3?
SUBS17 Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 Nice, Software alone is worth thousands of dollars. I still think LockOn is better. cheers Subs [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]
britgliderpilot Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 Lol, did you see the su 33 model. It has two seats. http://www.metavr.com/products/vrsg/VRSG3Dcontent-mil-air3.html Depends how good their intel is: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/britgliderpilot/Su27UBK2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/britgliderpilot/Su27UBK.jpg See? Don't know what number this got given, but it's a tandem two-seater on the ramp at Saki . . . . . They could have got their designations mixed up, of course - the Su30MKI pretty much fits the same picture. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/britgliderpilot/BS2Britgliderpilot-1.jpg
ALDEGA Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 Texture resolution in that ... "simulation" is quite low. No need to say that lower geometry count and signficantly lower texture resolution (a lot less fillrate usage) translate in your 73 fps. (and that's with quite a fast system)

Cool stuff, but rather expensive and not the most user friendly applications. Cheers, Carl

kyjko Posted December 10, 2004 Posted December 10, 2004 I haven't read throught the entire website, but as far as I can tell this product is just a 3d rendering world engine that one could license. It's not a simulator in the sense that it is a playable game or simulation of a particular aircraft. So a company could license the graphics engine but then would have to program all the AI as well as the flight model, etc. So even though they are getting high fps the CPU isn't doing the AI. It's not what some people think it is. It's a good comparison yes, but it's not a military simulator it's just a graphics engine.
