So far the Adams Class Destroyer is getting more requests but it's still early.

Noted Enoy. Most Foreign ships have that prefix but not US ships. One day I will sit down and show you all how to change the names of Ships without affecting the ships game play. Thanks.

Any chance you could make ur mods have a prefix in front of them like CH does? Just so it's easier to find the mods in the ship menu? Also your ship mods are phenomenal!

And by any chance could we get an Anzac class frigate and a Hobart class destroyer ✊

I may be helpful on this. First, there is a Hobart class destroyer for DCS from @desdemicabina-simulation there LHD JUAN CARLOS I (L61) MOD has both Spanish and Australian ships in their mod.

Now, what do you mean about prefixes on the ship, are you talking about in the ME, or when you see the ships in the game and the labels are on?

The Fleet of the USSR. We want a strong opponent. For a full-fledged aircraft carrier connection of the USSR, a destroyer of the project 956 "Modern" is needed. This is an anti-ship and anti-aircraft defense ship.

Hey Admiral, on my wishlist for some time now :

- the italo-french destroyer design Andrea Doria (French Chevaler Paul and Forbin). All their radars and armement (main guns, Exocet, Aster 30 missiles, etc) already exist in various DCS Mods, including yours.

Screenshots below, the Forbin along the brand new oiler Jacques Chevalier (also an italo-french design). Thanks for your superb Mods, Admiral ! 👏

Admiral thanks so much for your selfless dedication to bringing us all these great ship mods from your one man shipyard - very much appreciated. 👏

Hope you are feeling better.

I second the tag suggestion. Maybe an [ADM] or [A189] tag would work.

Enoy & DJReonic, you can add your own tags / naming convention by editing this line in the lua file

GT.DisplayName = _("    ")

The text between the brackets & quotations  _("   ") is what is displayed in the mission editor & in game - if you use labels (FULL)

For example, with Admiral's latest USS Lewis Puller ESB-3 mod, the description is GT.DisplayName = _("USS_Lewis_Puller ESB-3"), you can edit this to what you want e.g. _("[ADM] USS_Lewis_Puller ESB-3")

Just edit the text within the quotations "  ", I've provided the whole text, just for context.

Where to find lua?

Usually found in the main folder or Database sub folder & has the file extension .lua

File is normally named for the mod or close, I wouldn't touch the other files - if there are any (e.g. weapons etc.)

For the USS Lewis Puller ESB-3 mod the ship's lua is actually within a sub folder of the Database folder called Navy, named USS_Lewis_Puller ESB-3.lua

How to edit lua?

Maybe create a copy of lua, before you edit -  just in case.

Can open with any text editor (Notepad or Notepad++)

Use "Find" function to search for GT.DisplayName =

Edit name, as per above & save.

Load mod & enjoy.

Sample of line in USS_Lewis_Puller ESB-3.lua to edit (highlighted blue)

LUA ESB-3 Lewis Puller_Admiral.png

Personally I set up naming structure as Nation / Ship Class / Description / Author e.g. _("USS ESB-3 Lewis Puller [Admiral]") , but that's because I've edited all mods (>500!) & DCS descriptions, so they stack according to my preference in the mission builder & Encyclopedia.  Please don't worry - I am seeking help for this affliction 🤪

But does create order in the Mission Editor & Encyclopedia, and once you start you can't stop!

Apologies for long explanation, but I am an Idiot & appreciate the "Idiots guide" approach to learning things for myself - but hope it helps 😀

Further, if you want to avoid the clutter on the F10 Map when running your (complex) missions, you can also add (after the DispalyName line, or edit if it already exists) the line : DisplayNameShort= _("USS Lewis Puller ESB-3 "), and modify it to  your taste , for example : DisplayNameShort = _("L. Puller"). You will thus avoid overlapping labels for your armada. 😀 It's that simple.... 😉  Enjoy !...

Thanks, Guys I appreciate the input not only on the models to create but just general Input. In my future mods, I will add the Prefix in the front if that makes it easier for you.

Thanks, ggrewe, I appreciate that. Seems you have been around a while and understand DCS file lingo. Good Information. I just normally create the mod names based on the old fashion way. I have never really seen something in writing about how they should be named but I can implement the new naming convention as long as no one gets confused with it.

One thing I am trying to do is improve on the creation of the model making. Your feedback helps greatly because it gives me an idea of what to improve on and I thank you all for that.

So the Adams Class destroyer still has a good lead with Forbin Class Frigate coming up the rear.

I kinda get the tags thing but feel it's not important to all, My preference if there were tags would be to group it by nation like already done with the USS in front would be the most logical approach after all if your building a fleet your generally going for the same nation anyway, obviously doesn't account for multinational fleets but that then comes down to more ED not setting editor to be able to place multiple nations in the same group.

I second this. With the impending F-4E, plus just the general trend toward interest in the 1960s-1970s Cold War, having the pride of the Soviet surface fleet during the 1960s - 1970s would fill a solid need. Once the Kola Peninsula map drops, doubly so (Northern Fleet).

Hey Guys. Happy Friday.

I would like to start a discussion on FPS Lost. So at the moment some of you are having FPS lost while taking off and landing on some of the ships I created. What we have found is if you remove the .lods (Level of Detail} file the FPS returns to normal but in most cases that file is needed for gameplay. When you see a ship or boats silhouette on the horizon it's because of the LODS file.

So what relation does the Lods file have to FPS? Also, what relation does player aircraft have to FPS? However, the FPS of the model alone is fine. I was getting 140 FPS on the Lewis Puller yesterday without aircraft onboard.

I read an article yesterday that stated if you turn off VSYNC in DCS and enable VSYNC Fast in NVIDIA. I tested this but the FPS didn't change. One thing I do know is the greater the detail of a model the more FPS is lost. Starting to wonder if we should just create low-poly models for DCS.

So my question to you all. Does anyone here have more insight on FPS? Just trying to figure out why FPS is lost while taking off and landing from warships. All the mods are creating the same. Some are just larger than others with more weapons. Thanks.

Admiral, if this helps any, I have a complete potato for a DCS PC.  An old 3rd Gen i7 (3770K), Asus Sabertooth MB, GTX970 graphics card, but I do have 32gb of memory...  I have not witnessed any noticeable FPS drop whilst using your mods.

I tend to over-populate my missions with all sorts of goodies, but never seem to have an issue.  I also tend to push my graphics hard in the DCS settings.

Just my two penneth.

Thank you for all your hard work with the mods you have given us to date.

Thanks, Tengah for your input.

So you're saying you don't see any FPS issues with the Lewis Puller? If not that's great. Can you PM me your DCS settings? Maybe that's the issue. My settings may be off. Thanks.

@Tengah Are you actually landing or taking off from the ships with helicopters? That is where I am seeing the FPS issues.  Just adding the mods to game works fine.

it might be related to your collision model and damage code (ie. belongsToRunway definition). When close to the ship, DCS may be attempting to check contact between aircraft and your model on many complex surfaces and slowing down performance while doing all the checks. (removing LODS also removes the collision model so it could be why you see the performance increase when you do that), perhaps try simplifying your collision model and code the landing pad as a runway

Hi KeyserSoze62, yes, flying off, and landing on, I have not suffered any ill effects 😕  - Edit: I should mention that I only fly the UH-1 Huey.

May I ask if you have tried on any of these ships?

Lewis Pullman
Blue Ridge
San Antonio
Oak Hill

And what resolution are you running?   Thanks.

I know absolutely nothing about coding but I feel smarter having read this response. 😁 Very interesting thought that make sense to me but again I know nothing.

Hi KeyserSoze, from your list I have used: Lewis Pullman, Oak Hill, and Blue Ridge, San Antonio I haven't used.    My resolution is 2560x1440.

That is very interesting. I have been working on this with Admiral189 for a few days now testing. All the ships I mentioned have a big FPS drop only when you are on or over the deck. My normal frame rates of 100+ drop to single digits or low teens. I can hover all around the ship and above them around 40 feet with no problems but as soon as I try to land and get low to deck it drops. I'm on an i7 12700K 64gb Ram and a 3090. Same resolution as you. Many of his other ships are perfectly fine.

I see you shared your other settings with him so hopefully he can narrow down the issue.

Thanks for your responses.

No probs, I am sorry I can't be of any more help as I don't know what more to say.  By all means PM me if you think I can be of further assistance.

Hi Tengah,

As far as I am concerned, I am confronted with this problem of FPS drop in very specific situations:
- Only on some of Admiral's ships: USS Lewis Puller, LPD 91 Foudre, USS OakHill v1.03, USS Blue Ridge LCC-19
AND
- Only during take-off or landing of player aircraft (helicopter or AV-8B) within an envelope of around twenty metres (outside the zone FPS returns to normal).
@Tengah, have you tested these particular situations?

This is the same phenomenon as that described by @KeyserSoze62.

I am keeping tabs on the ships requested and so far I haven't seen two requests of the same ship yet so keep them coming. Thanks.

Loving your ships so far and use them for a lot of my missions.

If you are after any ideas, may I suggest a Type 42 destroyer or Type 21 Frigate. Following the release of the SA map, you would have thought they would be more forthcoming with the assets they previewed during its development, but so far its very sparse on assets from the Falklands war.
