sirrah Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 (edited) Only recently started to try and wrap my head around how to use the 103 and 105 CBU's If I understand it correctly, these are pretty much exactly the same as the 87 and 97, except that the 103 and 105 are GPS guided. Also, the 103 and 105 can't be dropped in CCIP mode. Although I understand the advantage of the GPS guidance (e.g. wind corrections, correcting aiming errors), I was wondering. Is it somehow still possible to drop these bombs without using the tgp? I mean, yesterday I was flying a mission and suddenly detected an enemy armored column right beneath me. What would be the quickest way to drop a 105 on them? So without having to first create proper distance, re-establish visual on the target, center my tgp on the target, fly in straight, keep pickle button pressed for a while. With the 87 and 97 I could simple roll in, put the pipper somewhere over the target (hey it's clusters anyways) and hit the pickle button. Why isn't CCIP allowed for the 103 and 105? razo+r Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 Mark their location with that box on the HUD, make it SPI and voila. Or create a markpoint on the HSD and make that one SPI

Or create a markpoint on the HSD and make that one SPI Still, that's more complicated than just roll in, aim pipper and drop bombs Why is CCIP not allowed for these bombs? I mean, what's the reason why these bombs don't have CCRP and CCIP mode, just like regular bombs? (not trolling here, honestly curious) System specs: i7-8700K @stock speed - GTX 1080TI @ stock speed - AsRock Extreme4 Z370 - 32GB DDR4 @3GHz- 500GB SSD - 2TB nvme - 650W PSU HP Reverb G1 v2 - Saitek Pro pedals - TM Warthog HOTAS - TM F/A-18 Grip - TM Cougar HOTAS (NN-Dan mod) & (throttle standalone mod) - VIRPIL VPC Rotor TCS Plus with ALPHA-L grip - Pointctrl & aux banks <-- must have for VR users!! - Andre's SimShaker Jetpad - Fully adjustable DIY playseat - VA+VAICOM - Realsimulator FSSB-R3 ~ That nuke might not have been the best of ideas, Sir... the enemy is furious ~ GUMMBAH
QuiGon Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 Because their guidance system needs an actual target point to fly to. With CCIP there is no such target point. You don't need a TGP though. There are many ways to create a target point (SPI), be it through HUD designation, or designation on the TAD or by using a steerpoint as target. Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!
sirrah Posted August 19, 2020 Author Posted August 19, 2020 Thanks guys  I guess making a SPI in the HUD will indeed be the closest it gets to using CCIP then and the quickest way to get the weapon on a nearby visual target System specs: i7-8700K @stock speed - GTX 1080TI @ stock speed - AsRock Extreme4 Z370 - 32GB DDR4 @3GHz- 500GB SSD - 2TB nvme - 650W PSU HP Reverb G1 v2 - Saitek Pro pedals - TM Warthog HOTAS - TM F/A-18 Grip - TM Cougar HOTAS (NN-Dan mod) & (throttle standalone mod) - VIRPIL VPC Rotor TCS Plus with ALPHA-L grip - Pointctrl & aux banks <-- must have for VR users!! - Andre's SimShaker Jetpad - Fully adjustable DIY playseat - VA+VAICOM - Realsimulator FSSB-R3 ~ That nuke might not have been the best of ideas, Sir... the enemy is furious ~ GUMMBAH

You roll in, put the HUD marker, make it SPI and then drop it. Everything possible while diving. Takes just a few seconds to set up.

The WCMDs (103 & 105) aren't really intended for this kind of employment. Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!

There were some enemy cap flights "closing" in, so I didn't want to stay there for too long :) (Liberation campaign truely is awesome :pilotfly:) System specs: i7-8700K @stock speed - GTX 1080TI @ stock speed - AsRock Extreme4 Z370 - 32GB DDR4 @3GHz- 500GB SSD - 2TB nvme - 650W PSU HP Reverb G1 v2 - Saitek Pro pedals - TM Warthog HOTAS - TM F/A-18 Grip - TM Cougar HOTAS (NN-Dan mod) & (throttle standalone mod) - VIRPIL VPC Rotor TCS Plus with ALPHA-L grip - Pointctrl & aux banks <-- must have for VR users!! - Andre's SimShaker Jetpad - Fully adjustable DIY playseat - VA+VAICOM - Realsimulator FSSB-R3 ~ That nuke might not have been the best of ideas, Sir... the enemy is furious ~ GUMMBAH
Frederf Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 Use DTC in TVV, fly onto target, designate and make SPI. Also CBO-103/105 no GPS.
Yurgon Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Because their guidance system needs an actual target point to fly to. With CCIP there is no such target point. Come to think of it, it would be great to have the option to drop them dumb, just like a GBU-12 could be dropped on a ballistic profile. Sure, it'll be only as precise as a dumb bomb and the guidance kit will be wasted, but even the A-10 can't take on all the weapons pilots might like to use all at the same time. ;) An option to set up a CBU-103 and CBU-105 CCIP profile in the DSMS would be great, but I have no idea whether it would be realistic. [...] except that the 103 and 105 are GPS guided. Actually they have their own INS, but they don't have GPS receivers, so technically they're not GPS guided. :smartass:
