Yes but what about the time BEFORE you've learned every button in the cockpit, then ya better have your english-russian dictionary around..

I don't speak Russian at all. I don't struggle with the Ka50's Russian cockpit ;)

AlphaOneSix -

I believe the Ka50 is offered for export - but nobody's bought one yet, and as such there's no definitive spec for such a machine.

The Ka50 being modelled is the most representative version ED can get information on, which is one of the prototypes that's accepted as having the specification that will enter service in Russia.

So just as the Apache or A-10 wouldn't come with Russian cockpit markings, the Ka50 is unlikely to come with English cockpit markings.

If TekaTeka or someone else wishes to produce an alternate set of cockpit textures in English . . . . well that's fine. But I don't think ED are going to do it out of the box.

IMO better - original version of gauges makes "feel" {klimat} of the game. English gauges in RU craft? Nooo :D

Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D

If I want to simulate me (who does not speak russian) being a russian Ka50 pilot (who does understand russian) the most realistic solution would be that I can understand the cockpit (swedish or english labels), just like the russian pilot does.

I think that matters more to realism than wether the cockpit is labeled this or that language, but thats just me. Not much of an issue anyway, since you'll probably learn the cockpit by heart sooner or later...

I would be happy with just being able to have the HUD in english though (like in LockOn)

You guys actually -read- labels? :smartass:

Seriously, having played both sims that have an interactive cockpit and ones that don't, I can assure you that I don't read labels. I know where the buttons and switches are and I know what they do. The labels could be in any language, have gibberish, or be wingdings for all I care.

Now anything on a MFD type of thing is a different manner, however based on the latest video from Wags, it looks like you can set it to English.

The labels didn't bother me too much in the Su25, the cockpit wasn't interactive and each aircraft had similar keyboard shortcuts anyhow. An English cockpit would have made me feel more at home though, just as Russian labels in the western aircraft would be more comfy for Russian speakers. Surely its just about making the product more accessible to new users, a detailed flightsim is daunting enough.

Anyway it appears that TT's on the case so everythings OK

and as ppl say.. how freakin' realistic is it to fly a chopper which cockpit is in a language you cant understand.. i seriously doubt any pilot on this planet does that :P

When you hear a warning siren and look at cyrillic warning lights that could mean anything from "you've got an incoming radio-call" to "you're friggin' dead", I bet you wish to be able to read labels, too. :smilewink:

If I think about the clickable cockpit in Falcon4, I'd be totally lost with just some unknown symbols next to the buttons.

some valid points from both sides of the table.

i agree its eventually memory that you rely on for switch or button position, more so than labeling whatever the language.

i just think of at first, while learning, before you memorize the location and function of each switch or button, this is when you may really want things in your native tongue, or eye whatever the case may be.

if you desire to remain authentically Russian that is great, if you need help in english you have the pop up labels in english for that, which i am sure will be a toggle on/off option if you want it extra hard-core :)

if someone makes an english cockpit mod then i would have to admit to probably using this option.

me not using the Russian birds in lockon was originally due to a lack of understanding of the systems, and my unwillingness to learn the language,

so i immediately headed for something with a cockpit that made sense in my native language.

either way we have english support.

Well, from a real piloting perspective, I can tell you that even after flying for 10 years in the same airplanes in our company fleet, I wouldn't be able to tell you where every switch and button was in the aircraft by memory. Certain switches, over the years, become instantly recognizable and your hand just travels to them automatically, but others require me to put my head down and look. For instance, in the Citation V, which I've been flying for 12 years now, I still have to lean down and read the writing on the EL panel (Electro-Luminescent lettering) to make sure I'm moving the correct switches. The switches are all very close and have the same texture, and there are plenty of them: wing inspection light, nav lights, recog lights, tail/beacon, pitot static heat, windshield hi/lo switch, manual boot deice, etc..etc.. They are all in the same spot and it is important that you hit the right switch in some cases. For instance, the manual de-ice boot activation switch is right next to another switch. If you are flying high, and the temperature is below -40C, if you hit the manual boot activation switch you will shred the rubber boots (they get too brittle at super-cold temps).

So, from a realistic perspective, I do think it is important that you be able to read and understand the labeling of an aircraft cockpit. If I were flying an imported plane I'd spend more time in the cockpit making darn sure I knew what switches did what. I'm a big fan of Teka Teka doing an English "export" cockpit. I'd use it.

mmm... I think it would be cool to have some good guy making this english or whatever language mod for the cockpit, from the moment that is something that you can install or not I don't see any problem, both sides will be happy, don't want it ? don't use it.. simple. With a layered photoshop file of the cockpit is something you can do in few hours, we can0t even talk about delay of the release date... btw give me the files and I do it in 10 languages so everybody will be happy.

oh, when Black Shark will be released??

eheh jocking..

it's not just about learning new words of a new language, it's also about learning a new alphabet... to me it looks like those simbols of predator.. do you remember it?

Plus try to buy a 18 million heli and ask for a pink cockpit with leopard seat, I bet they don't have problems for those money you pay, so why not english language? go TEka go!

Here we go again. :spam_laser:

Do You remember there will be pop-up english labels (just like in fsx)? English cockpit with english pop-ups will be like "buttery butter". Honestly I believe there will be too many strange looking shortcuts that You won't find in any known english ckpt and You will have to read info on pop-up label.

I hear ya, i hear ya - "I won't wait for labels popping up to read it in combat heat". You won't need those in combat heat.

You can say popping labels are not realistic - well, pink cockpit with leopard seat isn't either.

yes you hear me.. labels suck.. also for video making labels sucks, I hope it'll be an option too. So I'll turn them off and you'll turn English cockpit off too, and both of us will be happy.

Yupp, and ivory stick and collective ;)

Do I get ivory pedals too?

I'd also like to be able to turn off the popups, I might get a touch screen and in that case they're mostly an annoyance I'd guess... English labels in the cockpit, and no popup labels.. that's how I'll play if I can :)

With the motivation that it's unrealistic to play I'm a russian pilot who does'nt understand my russian cockpit.

Whatever floats your boat I say!!

^^ Do You know what I mean? Even with translated ckpt You won't understand every label 'cuz it's quite new idea - different from western ckpt.

Example: Tell me what is CETKA - hundred.

CETKA is also known as Grid-Mode IIRC. It's commonly used for ground attack with non-guided weapons like guns and rockets. AFAIK the grid works basically like the gunsights in WW2 with different markings used to measure distance and super-elevation.
