Another update.  Deleted everything Gigabyte installed and that didnt help.  But I did mess with the Nvidia settings.  Vertical Sync = OFF, VR pre-rendered frames = use 3D app (tried all other settings, this was the best),  Low Latency = Ultra ( dont know if this helps, seemed too)

Now I almost have no micro stutters.. Still there from time to time, but huge improvement.

I also tried Motion smooth again.  That took every single stutter out just has small graphic glitches mostly when in clouds.

I almost got rid of all my stutters.  I turned off DVR mode in REG EDIT (which is always on in Windows 11).  I only have small micro stutters when looking right at a 45deg angle.  Which is very strange and its not really noticeable unless I keep my head at that angle.

Last Update:

The 45 deg angle stutters was the position of my base stations.  I now have zero stutters.  Hope everything I posted helps.

Hi Rachmaninoff. That is a very well detailed post, and right to the point!

I see you haven't tried Windows safe mode yet. It can prove very useful to find the origin of your stutters. First, please set your pagefile to 32 GB. Then, give safe mode a go:

  1. Press Windows key, type "msconfig" and press Enter.
  2. In the General tab, tick "Diagnostic startup" and click "Apply" (you will see some other boxes get ticked, it's OK).
  3. Click OK and choose to restart your computer.
  4. Log into Windows as usual, then launch DCS. You will get several error messages since your PC network is disabled. Just click OK until you see DCS main menu.
  5. Fly the Su-25T in an instant action mission and watch your FPS counter.

Once you're done with testing, just open "msconfig", tick "Normal startup", click OK and restart your system, and everything will be back to normal. Then tell us if the stutters completely disappear in safe mode.

Hi Flappie,

I had tried this method and when I went to restart Windows I was not able to start Mixed Reality Portal?. The best I could do was clean boot my PC and I was still getting microstutters looking left and right.

I read through this thread and some pretty clever fixes. I will try the power option fix.. I will report back

Thank you

Hi. I don't recommend this method anymore for it caused a few users a lot of trouble. Thanks for reminding me of this post of mine, I'll add some disclaimer.

Please try this instead:

Also try unplugging your mouse.

I dont use the adrenalin stuff and I dont have the F18 installed, is that a setting in DCS?

I fly the apache and F16. I will try unplugging the mouse, would a different mouse do anything or just unplug it?

Yes I have seen that mentioned a couple times but did not know to try and unplug it..

I did unplug it and it seemed to have helped a little but micro stutters still seem to be there.. IS there anything else I could try that you are aware of?

thank you for the help 🙂

EDIT: I had set my Pagefile to 32768-32768, I have set graphics to lowest except Textures they are on medium and I get about 5-5.6gb Vram usage.. I use OpenXR. I have a Reverb G2 headset. I had it smooth in 2.7 but it seemed to have gotten worse again in 2.8. I will continue to tweak..

I see you have a USB drive plugged into your PC. I'd like to make sure your pagefile isn't stored on your USB drive.

Try this:

  1. Run a "cmd" window.
  2. Execute this command: wmic pagefile list /format:list
  3. Paste the result here.

Looks like im not the only one having issues with framerate after updating to 2.8 before updating, I was able to DCS on my gaming laptop with no AC just battery and the battery was set on Power Saver, DCS ran absolutely beautiful, the framerate was perfect.

after the update, the power option I select makes no difference. Its just not worth playing, stutters and pauses every few seconds. Hopefully a patch comes out real soon as ill be sitting on the sidelines til then.

Good. Just in case, can you try and play with your USB drive unplugged? (D:\)

OK will do.  thnx 🙂

EDIT: Well I just was flying in the apache and I had the USB drive switched off and it still was micro stutters. I tried using the res reduction thing and it did not seem to help either.

IF you need more logs or similar just let me know.

If it hasn't been mentioned already, I previously got rid of some stutters by disabling the full screen mode in DCS options.

Just in case it wasn't mentioned before:

- disable Game Mode in Windows

- disable "fullscreen optimization" in the properties of the DCS executable (right click on the DCS.exe)

Yes check on both of thos as always. I also made sure HAGS was disabled.. I think as I was experimenting with the res lower thingie in the toolkit for OPEN XR and I noticed when my Frametimes where below 21 in both CPU and GPU the stutters were less then normal so I think If I can get those a bit lower it might help a bit more..

When the Frametime are at say like 26 it is very choppy.. besides new GPU what could help with lowering Frametimes..? a new pc is out but I might get an upgrade to a 1080ti.. best I can do right now.

1080ti is a pretty decent step up to a 1070. 👍

@Flappie

One more thing to share.

If you are using an AMD GPU, chances are you have Adrenalin software installed.

I noticed one of its program, "radeon settings host service" was constantly taxing my CPU by 20%, causing stutters. I don't know what it does and how it does it, but the program lies dormant all the time except for when DCS is running(Other games seem fine / something ED could look into?).

There are lots of fixes that can be found in google, all regarding turning off AMD Relive(something related to recording), but it didn't work for me.

Killing it in task manager doesn't do anything either since it resurrects itself instantly. Only thing I could do is reboot to safe mode, and rename the exe file

You can find it in "C:\Program Files\AMD\CNext\CNext" and the file name is "AMDRSServ.exe". Rename it to something else, reboot, and you should be good to go.

You might want to do this again when your GPU driver updates though.

I've tried everything in this post. i've tried disabeling power.msc as well but that made my stutters 4 times worse.

Hot plugging of devices is off, all the settings in this thread correnspond to my setup.

nullFor reference look at the picture. Nothing of my pc is maxed out and i also do not believe this to be a definite hardware related issue. You can clearly see the spike in the graph.

My specs:

10900K
6950 XT (brandspanking new, got it yesterday but stutters have been there with my old GPU as well which was a 2070)
32GB 3200 MHz
Installed on an SSD with 100GB free space

Hi. I'm not aware of a global stuttering issue. I can offer you my help if you create a new thread and attach your dcs.log, your dxdiag log and decribe the symptoms.

If you want to give up and stick to 2.7, you can update to release version and never ever update your sim, but that would be sad (no more MP compatibility, no new features).

I get the exact same spikes- regardless of whether it is 2d, vr, various settings etc. I've tried literally every fix. The last thing I've seen was some random post where someone had an nvme drive with no dram, and switching to an ssd with dram fixed the issue for him. I'm about to try it myself.
