unltd Posted September 1, 2020 Posted September 1, 2020 (edited) ...and don't say it's already in there as supersampling. I made that mistake, DLSS is not supersampling, go check Nvidia's papers on it...it's freaky AI coolness. I'm drinking the cool-aid. Also, lots in earlier threads about it being proprietary but both AMD and Nvidia will have versions and VR was originally proprietary too. ED pivoted on VR and enabled it expeditiously...one can only hope. Edited September 1, 2020 by unltd Ryzen 5950x PBO | MSI RTX 3090 | 32gb 3600 RAM | 2 x SSD | Quest 3 | TM Warthog

Fusedspine33 Posted September 1, 2020 Posted September 1, 2020 Guess you watched the Nvidia reveal too. Seemed like the new technology could advance DCS greatly. The effects demonstrated are pretty incredible. Imagine hovering in front of a high rise around Vegas in a Huey and seeing your reflection. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
unltd Posted September 2, 2020 Author Posted September 2, 2020 ...yep. Along with the tech ED is beginning to include already (volumetric shadows, SSLR and cockpit illumination, water transparency and reflections), we can only hope that someday they will be able to get rid of the crappy carton color flatness of the terrain and add some wonderful weather al la MS Flightsim. DLSS makes these fps hungry enhancements possible now. Get on it ED! Ryzen 5950x PBO | MSI RTX 3090 | 32gb 3600 RAM | 2 x SSD | Quest 3 | TM Warthog
SharpeXB Posted September 2, 2020 Posted September 2, 2020 What’s funny is Deep Learning Super Sampling isn’t supersampling. It’s upscaling. Harker Posted September 2, 2020 Posted September 2, 2020 DLSS wasn't great in the beginning, but DLSS 2 is pretty amazing. Ray tracing too, for that matter, just think of how many glass surfaces a cockpit has and how cool real time reflections would look. DLSS + RT could stand to greatly improve DCS's visuals and performance. The vCVW-17 is looking for Hornet and Tomcat pilots and RIOs. Join the vCVW-17 Discord. draconus Posted September 2, 2020 Posted September 2, 2020 We don't even have proper shadows - only one light source possible now or the shadows disappear when turning away from the obstruction and you talk about reflections :music_whistling: Win10 i7-10700KF 32GB RTX4070S Quest 3 T16000M VPC CDT-VMAX TFRP FC3 F-14A/B F-15E CA SC NTTR PG Syria
Harker Posted September 2, 2020 Posted September 2, 2020 We don't even have proper shadows - only one light source possible now or the shadows disappear when turning away from the obstruction and you talk about reflections :music_whistling: Exactly because of that I'm talking about RT. At this stage, it'll be easier to implement RT and let it do its thing than do the massive overhaul that's needed to achieve any sort of believable photo-realism. The Question is whether EDGE is compatible with RT to begin with. The introduction of SSLR a few months ago makes me hopeful, since SSLR does enable some dynamic, real time reflections, but even that needs a lot of development (nothing changes on the cockpit glass, for example) and optimization. I don't know if SSLR could use RT cores to run, but they should consider it. The vCVW-17 is looking for Hornet and Tomcat pilots and RIOs. Join the vCVW-17 Discord. Mr_sukebe Posted September 2, 2020 Posted September 2, 2020 Let’s hope the new engine will include a host of the new functionality coming through 7800x3d, 5080, 64GB, PCIE5 SSD - Oculus Pro - Moza (AB9), Virpil (Alpha, CM3, CM1 and CM2), WW (TOP and CP), TM (MFDs, Pendular Rudder), Tek Creations (F18 panel), Total Controls (Apache MFD), Jetseat
MacEwan Posted September 2, 2020 Posted September 2, 2020 I dont think we will see any vast improvements until DCS overhauls the engine or moves to something new. And realistically we shouldn't expect it any sooner. IMO implementing these new technologies needs to be done properly to truly take advantage of their benefits, nobody wants to see them haphazardly slapped on. ED take your time and make the next evolution of DCS truly revolutionary
