It doesn't sound like a high frequency sharp jet engine sound in the cockpit. It is rather quiet in there.

Never compare video sounds to the sound you would hear.. with earplugs ans a tight fitting helmet the noise goes down very very much.

Agree completely, but when you uncheck "hear like in helmet" in the sound options I would expect to hear something close to what this video shows as this is recorded right from the cockpit outside of the the helmet.

Our DCS version doesn't sound as close to this, but it being EA I'm sure it will improve.

GoPro-like microphones aren't exactly professional audio equipment. They usually struggle with loud noises, low frequencies and resonant frequencies. Also, in both videos the cameras are mounted, so they will pick up vibrations you normally wouldn't hear in the cockpit. And finally the direction of the microphone plays a huge roll and the setup seen in the videos obviously doesn't replicate the location of the pilots' ears.

We've just started recording the audio and it's already vastly different from what you'd be hearing with your own ears. If you've ever seen concert footage recorded with a phone you probably get the idea.

Post processing can only do so much. If you haven't recorded the low frequencies properly you can't restore them. Similarly if you have unwanted noise you can't cut it out. You can mitigate those issues, but you can't completely fix them.

So, no. Both videos are not an accurate representation of the sounds in the cockpit. This should be obvious since both videos sound pretty much completely different.

To whom it may concern,

I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that.

Thank you for you patience.

To make the sound in the cockpit, if there is no way to be in it myself, as in the case of the F16, I watch not one or two videos, but all available video recordings on YouTube and not only. And based on my own experience of flying on other aircraft, and experience in sound development, I compose the overall picture of the sound. And we have some real pilots, who test our modules. And of course we always rely on their opinions.

Of course, I can be wrong without having my own flying experience. But it's better for us to correct the sound not based on one or two videos, but from the words of a real pilot. Or from his comments about certain video recordings. Otherwise, we will only spoil the current sound, trying to adjust it to someone's subjective opinion.

So,

Do ED have any plans to update ?

if you are a pilot of f16, please describe your feelings about these 2 videos and their comparison with DCS sound for example. And I will fix the sound in that way.

Great point! Only real Viper pilots (Block 50 pilots) can tell us if the sound is realistic or not. And to make the sound as realistic as possible, you need someone who is a Viper pilot and a sound engineer at the same time I guess.
