Most player have these commands assigned to a HOTAS. Maybe the bomb arming panel you’d click on. I think in the Spitfire the only thing I click on after startup is to drop the tank, if there is one.

Point being ED could greatly simplify these modules if nobody is using the features. Maybe most people don’t remember ED bailing out the Europe:1944 Kickstarter after it went belly up trying to make full systems WWII planes... where these all came from originally. Ckicky pits are expensive.

Use it or lose it people... :music_whistling:

Again, you don't get it but I suspect that will continue no matter what is said unless it is agreeing with your point of view. May your weapons find their target and the skies stay friendly.:pilotfly:

Of course he gets it! Now you're just being coy! Little stubborn, that he is. But well within his rights.

Anyways, before this thread gets closed. Looking at some threads these past couple of weeks. All of us need to go out more. This "pandemic" really gets the best of us.

Cheers!

I have only read the first page and the OP, not the entire thread, but here's my 2 cents:

Realistic cold starts are part of the beauty of DCS. IMO it's a simulation game, so why not make the most out of it? Therefore, all my missions are cold start.

I appreciate that this is not everyone's cup of tea, though, so thankfully there's a start cheat. Just press the button, accelerate time, and in 30 seconds you can go. Even I use it when I'm testing my campaigns. If pressing 2 buttons and waiting 30 sec is too much for someone, then I'm sorry, they should probably try something else. Like instant action missions for example.

Making alternative hot/cold start versions of each mission is a real pain, increases maintenance workload by a lot. Adding different slots, then making all the triggers dependent on what slot the player took is an even more complicated solution. Just not worth the effort, when we have the above mentioned option. Not to mention the fact that things are meant to happen WHILE the player is starting up, so changing to hot/ runway start may mess up some other events too.

Anyhow, I'm glad we have all these options in DCS so everyone can do it the way THEY prefer.

Thank you! I will be a happy returning customer forever after!

Campaigns I’ve played so far:

The official one, Task Force Challenger

The Serpents Head 2 (DLC)

Operation Saber Thrust (free)

All those are hot starts

And I only found only two of the canned missions in DCS “Dawn Raiders”

“Training Day” with cold starts.

A bit confused now, as you told me a few posts above you were specifically talking about official/DLC campaigns. As mentioned before, for official/DLC Hornet campaigns you got a 50:50 choice for hot or cold start. You just choosed the wrong to buy. That's kinda unfortunate, but true. When you play free campaigns (i.e. Saber Thrust) with hot start, while you prefer cold start... well, this is your own fault. Mission one is hot start -> delete ithe campaign and try the next one. For the canned missions, i only played "Dawn Raiders" and "Ode to Mongo" and it's long ago. I couldn't even tell if it's hot or cold. I think there are only 4 combat missions for the Hornet anyways? The rest are weapons qualification or whatever training missions. If you want more cold start missions/campaigns, again, the Mission/campaign editor is your friend. It's better to do it by yourself, than rely on others to do the job.

I think there are quite a few people like me in DCS, who spend a lot of time in the editor (i got ~1000 hours) making their own stuff but don't ever upload it because of various reasons. I met a few crafting outstanding missions for private coop/SP and never uploaded a single mission, and i had people telling me my missions/campaigns should be uploaded as well, but... no thanks. I simply don't enjoy the pressure of updating my missions regulary after updates and same for a lot of other people i guess. I had this with my ArmA 3 missions in the Steam Workshop. Never again. And when there are people in addition, beeing pissed about if it's hot or cold start, F10 map settings, or whatever... guess why there is so "few" content that fits your personal preference?

No offense though, i highly respect your preference for cold start and accurate simming. Honestly! But the way you put it sounds realy disrespectful towards the people who crafted those missions, and to those who prefer hot start. DCS is a simulator wich both, amateurs and hard-core flight simmers can enjoy on the same servers/missions and i think this is a key feature of DCS' success.

Cheers

It’s just surprising to me because prior to this it has been 100% cold start

Maybe I am and he is absolutely right to want the game/sim to work to his enjoyment  Agreed on all of us needing to get out during all this.

It just amazes me. Really... In the whole $79 Eagle Dynamics DCS: F/-18C Hornet module. The only two missions which involve a cold start are on the ground. There’s not one single actual combat mission which has you cold start on the carrier.

Nobody else wants to do this? And Win+Home just spoils the whole thing...

Until they build the F16, A10 or F22 with a Thrustmaster Warthog hotas from the factory and deploy it with the armed forces your argument is stupid. That said, I have no problem if they Add some way to give you the choice to do it whole hog if you choose. Why is it so hard for You to allow others to have their fun their way?

On day one, I downloaded the F-14, read a few posts, watched a few videos and successfully launched from an aircraft carrier flew around and landed. There is no way I can fly the real thing so it is a game. Or I’m one hell of a fast learner

I’m feeling better now...

You have to realize that DCS needs to guide new users on their experience so the learning curve is not unpleasant. Cold start is an advanced skill that comes later.

Oh, so this is a simulation of a military simulator not an actual flight simulator. Now I understand.

I think OP wants an option to "Force Cold Starts" on all missions (with the aircraft still on the ground :D).

Or instead of just "Fly", if the aircraft was parked, it'd always offer "Cold Start" and "Hot Start".

Or "Fly" and one of "Force Cold Start" or "Force Hot Start" as an option, whichever is the opposite of what the mission default is.

That would solve everything and be a very welcome feature.

No, it wouldn't really solve anything and would break a lot of content since many well-designed missions rely heavily on timing and on-start events that need to happen in a specific order and at specific times. It would completely ruin the dramaturgy and immersion of properly scripted missions, just to satisfy a nonsensical need to not play the mission as intended.

The solution already exists: create the dead time at the beginning of every mission yourself. It's pretty easy and there are tons of supporting material, and even third-party design suites, available to help you get into it and make it easy. No other solution is really necessary.
