I've just re-read the info on the radio systems on the KA-50--really amazing stuff. The ability to create radio station content is awesome--I've recently experienced this in my WW2 sub sim, Wolves of the Pacific--and it's neat to listen to radio stations when I'm on the surface--especially when news from that day in history, is played, like the real broadcast. Obviously, this brings immersion factor way up--but since BS will involve hypothetical battles, I imagine news broadcasts won't be as valuable. However, having certain stations with certain music/content will! I can see it now--a virtual Sirius Sattelite setup--a "Grateful Dead" channel, "Classic Rock", etc.--perhaps someone can even create a "Howard Stern" show??!!

Get to it people! (Like we're not going to be busy enough in the cockpit as it is).

We listen to the radio in flight by tuning in an AM radio station on the ADF all the time. It's great when an important football or hockey game is on. :)

In Black Shark Maykop is a radio station that can be tuned in and users can, I believe, add sound files of their choosing that will broadcast over radio Maykop in the game.

That's how I understood it, as well, Shepski. Basically, you can put any audiofile in there, and it will play--from Madonna, to an audiobook! How about podcasts from Wags, talking about future a/c and features! Cruising around in my KA-50, listening to podcasts. I'll never survive.

Correct, you can add .wav or .ogg sound files to be played when the station is tuned into. Currently, there is only one broadcasting station on the map. It's called "Radio Mayak" (Radio Beacon) and is a real radio network, operating all over Russia. You can see their actual Maykop location frequency here (Russian website):

In Black Shark, it has its own dedicated tower (which you can successfully destroy :)). We should probably explain that, because you cannot actually tune the ARK-22 ADF in the Ka-50 cockpit (the 8 operating channels are preset in its .lua file), ED altered the station's operating frequency to the R-800L1's VHF band, allowing the player to actually tune into the station via the comms radio, as opposed to the ADF. It's an easter egg.

Would be cool if you could specify the URL of your favorite webradio stream in some .lua file and tune in that, hehe... :music_whistling:

That would indeed be nice! :)

hmm..might be possible..mp3 is a streamable format...

assuming BS doesnt have to pre-cache the whole file , you could run an external recorder to take an online stream and stream it out to a file location.

ED , will BS stream audio files in this way, or does it expect to pre-cache the entire thing?

edit - Oh, I see, WAV or OGG only... not sure if OGG is streamable, but I dont think so :(

"Ogg Vorbis is easily streamable. Icecast, our streaming audio server, is capable of streaming Ogg Vorbis to players like XMMS, Winamp 2, and foobar2000."
