MadTommy Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 Hello, i just wanted to gauge what people's fps are when flying lomac. I've ended up with a ton of eye candy and very low fps. I have loads of mods, LoReload, Merzifon 1.3, mizzy's art, and all the small ones like realistic moon, etc. I also have that HDR bloom (GTA) thing, on very weak setting, (looking very good) I've also modded my graphics.cfg to give far greater view distances these are my present settings.. High { near_clip = 0.2; middle_clip = 4; far_clip = 200000; structures = {200, 10000}; trees = {200000, 20000}; dynamic = {300, 20000}; objects = {5000, 80000}; mirage = {5000, 20000}; surface = {20000, 200000}; lights = {200, 80000}; lod = 1.5; LandLodDistances { LandDay { L01 = 30000; L12 = 50000; } LandNight { L01 = 30000; L12 = 50000; My rig.. to give a bench mark is: AMD64 3500+, x1950pro 512MB agp, 2 GB DDR2, x-fi sound, sata150 HDD. & I'm running at AAx2, AFx4: 1280x1024 Needless to say lockon is looking beautiful.. but my fps has suffered. I'm getting an average of about 15. This is playable, but i'm thinking things would be better with a higher average... What fps should i aim for and what settings would you sacrific first? Thanks for any help in advance. :helpsmilie::clap: i5-3570K @ 4.5 Ghz, Asus P8Z77-V, 8 GB DDR3, 1.5GB GTX 480 (EVGA, superclocked), SSD, 2 x 1680x1050, x-fi extreme music. MadTommy Posted April 29, 2008 Author Posted April 29, 2008 thanks mate.. i'll try those and compare, much appreciated. Esac_mirmidon Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 Replace Land day and Land Night for 20000/40000 ( at night you can also replace this values for the original ones. you dont need far visual distances at all) This improves a lot FPS. And with 20k40k the neat and definition is great all around your plane. " You must think in russian.." rattler Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 thanks mate.. i'll try those and compare, much appreciated. What fps do you aim to achieve as an average? I get 35FPS around busy airports lots of objects, etc. flying is around 54-60, lots of A/C will go down to around 31-35, couple of times it may have hit 29 in the air. Taxi it stays at around 35. I fly with 3 wingmen to take the heat off as that is all they are good for. ha ha.
rattler Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 Rattler.. Why ? lights = {50, 10000}; lod = 2.; To be honest with you I don't know. I was more concerned about other settings and never gave this much thought as the end result seems ok but if you have a suggestion would be more than happy to give her a try. I know light does not effect performance from what I have read so it could be higher. Would appreciate a come back on the settings, always willing to try to improve. Thanks Gozr!! P.S. I was looking through some download info and that is your setting from one of your Graphics.cfg files but you use lod=1.; instead of 2 . You had 3> 60, 50 and 100 for fast, faster and fast Ground. I don't do ground so I stayed in the middle. Now if you can help me with the LOD part as that has always been a gray area with me I would deeply appreciate your advice. Cheers.

SuperKungFu Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 also, be sure most of your skins are NOT in your temptexture folder. SuperKungFu Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 It made a big difference for me because most of my skins are bmp files and in 2048x2048 res. For example, if i add all my skins together, this will give me a total of 2.48 gigs. After converting them to cdds, its only 539 mb (so almost 1/4 the size without the quality lost). Once you carefully read through the tutorial, it is fairly easy to use. And it is something you should invest some time into. I never did focus on the fps counter and did a comparison between the transition from bmp to cdds so I can't give you any hard data, but you can defiantly see it in game. For example, if the new A-10 model had the skins in the temptexture folder, it would slow the game to a griding halt because its using 4 massive 2048x2048 bmp files rather than 2 files like the other planes. But once it was in cdds, it is playable again. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Deadman Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 Any thing you have in Temp textures eats up three times the resources than the CDDS file The new A-10 has only 4 2048x4048 plates the Su 25T has 13 plates of different sizes cosmo's tutorial will walk you through the process https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.

Sometimes it goes up to 30-40, but sometimes it drops seriously. Taking off with the SU-25T from Novorossiysk airport is around 10 fps. It's much better with the other planes though. But I refuse to turn off any more eye candy, it's playable after all, and I love the way it looks. Besides, most graphical setting doesn't improve fps as much as to make it worth turning them off (like full shadows, all lights, advanced fog, high scenes, high textures, heat blur) - it's my CPU that holds it back after all, not my graphic card. I have water on medium and effects on low, though.

Kuky Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 I use LOD = 3; and its not really much affecting the framerate over default lockon max value of 2 (maybe you loose 5% compared to value of 2). I like value of 3 because when I am on the airbase the concrete aircraft hangers have better definition (they stay in highest quality 3d model for futher distance) and it just looks nice :) PC specs: Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC 360 AIO | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 AIO | 55" Samsung Odyssey Gen 2 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD for OS | 2TB M2 SSD for DCS | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | TM Cougar Throttle, Floor Mounted MongoosT-50 Grip on TM Cougar board, MFG Crosswind, Track IR
MadTommy Posted May 21, 2008 Author Posted May 21, 2008 Hmmm weird... i just changed my LOD from 1.5 to 3 and my fps seemed to slightly improve! And everything looks better. It certainly is not a hit on fps. Thanks Kuky. This is what i've ended up with... very happy with it.. lowest fps = 15ish, flying high its 40 - 80 (AMD64 3500+, 2Gb DDR2, x1950pro) Custom2 { near_clip = 0.2; middle_clip = 4.; far_clip = 100000; structures = {200, 10000}; trees = {8000, 12000}; dynamic = {300, 20000}; objects = {5000, 80000}; mirage = {3000, 20000}; surface = {15000, 100000}; lights = {200, 80000}; lod = 3; LandDay { L01 = 20000; L12 = 40000; } LandNight { L01 = 20000; L12 = 40000; i5-3570K @ 4.5 Ghz, Asus P8Z77-V, 8 GB DDR3, 1.5GB GTX 480 (EVGA, superclocked), SSD, 2 x 1680x1050, x-fi extreme music. badaboom Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 You should try Teka Teka's graphics tweak at LockOnfiles.my system is verry low end and I picked up 6fps in cockpit. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Malleus Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 When your CPU is holding you back, try reducing the 'visible rng' setting in the graphics options. It works very good for me. No it didn't make it much better. I've tweaked the hell out of those settings already. The only way to gain significant fps is to set the scenery to low, but it pretty much removes all the objects from the terrain and that's ... no deal. :)
