Hi,

the F-18 module has a JSOW practice mission where you are equipped with 4 JSOWs and have four targets at four waypoints.

the targets are defended by a SA-10.

every time I fire a JSOW to a waypoint the SA-10 fires missiles and destroys the JSOWs. How do you use JSOWs to get by air defense?

thanks.

I think the ability of SA-10's to take out JSOW and other AG ordnance was something that has come and gone and returned, so, probably when that mission was first made, the SA-10's couldn't target the JSOW, but they now can (again).

Take up 2 HARMS, then double up your JSOWs on the other pylons with the BRU rack. Fire off the HARMs first, even if they don't hit, maybe it'll get the SA-10 to shut down

Thank you for the advice! I will try that. Can I edit that mission using the mission editor to give myself HARMs? Even though it was provided with the module? Sorry for the stupid question.

dcs doesnt implement this behaviour.

youd have to use one of those fancy community-made scripts.

click the Mission Planner button right before you enter the 3D world. then find your plane and change its loadout.

thats the Mission Planner is for - to change settings of your plane.

I was unaware, but it does make them easier to kill if they leave the radar on

So o did as recommended and shot two HARMS at the SA-10. Direct hits in both the search and the tracking radar. I saw the missiles in F6 mode. But zero effect. It was as though the radars were invulnerable. Any explanation for this? Thanks

I have tried that mission also and gave up. They must have a million SAMs on hand cause at one point on the F10 map I saw 6 flying at once. I watch the SAMs coming at me by flipping to F10, back to F1, and watching the timer count down, back to F10 etc. I tried 3-4 times firing one JSOW and bugging back out of SAM range, turn and line up again to try to fire another JSOW. So I avoided being shot down myself, but then realized the SAMs easily shoot down the JSOWs too. Bottom line is the SAMs have a lot longer range than the JSOWs, they are very accurate, so the mission is, at least for me, impossible.

I have created my own mission where I have 4 trucks sitting on a road far enough apart that I also have them as 4 waypoints. I also have 3 IL76s flying around an airfield so, whether I get my bombing done successfully or not, I can always end up w/ shooting these down. I have saved several versions of the mission that differ just in the type of bomb I am carrying.

That was the first actual mission I tried. It discouraged me so much I didn’t try any others and started writing my own training missions. I can make them challenging but doable and have learned a lot.

would you be able to share some of these missions you have? Always looking for more stuff to try that isn't impossible!

Getting used to work with the JSOW, there is one question I could not find an answer .

Can you use the TGP to give the JSOW the target location ?

I always used TOO or PPMode making existing WPs the TGT-point.

So if it is possible, please let me know.

I had a same problem last days.. Most of the bombs had been shot down by SAMs. I found some trick, trying to attack the airfild from the low level, using the terraing hiding. You can get very close to the target, and have a succesful hit, however, in the overall: it is in opposite to the idea of JSOW (designed mainly for high altitude and distance). Poor this single missions for F-18 are 😞 I am waiting for "training" updates. They are also missing.
