I've got a RTX2080ti, so it's not card or drivers.  I've been noticing a lot of blocky artefacts on the textures.  The screenshot shows this around the coastlines, however I see it on aircraft textures as well.

is this something in settings that I'm missing?

Hi. I've seen a guy named "NightFlier" in the DCS Discord with the same issue (pic below). He has an RTX 2080.

It's not you, is it?

Can you attach your dcs.log and a screenshot of your NVIDIA settings, please?

I think this issue is caused by one or several NVIDIA settings. We need to find which ones. Since I don't have this issue, I propose you try my settings, and then progressively get back to yours.

Please set the following values in one go, apply, and see if the issue disappears.

  • Image sharpening = OFF
  • Ambiant occlusion = OFF
  • Antialiasing - FXAA = OFF
  • Antialiasing - Gamma correction = OFF
  • Antialiasing - Transparency = OFF
  • DSR - Factors = OFF
  • Multi-Frame Sampled AA (MFAA) = OFF
  • Texture filtering - Anisotropic sample optimization = OFF
  • Triple buffering = OFF

The issue is gone? Good. Now, for each of these settings, go back to the former value and check if the issue reappears. You'll know which one is producing these huge pixels.

Thanks for your replies.  Depth of Field it was.

why is it that maxing out the setting in DCS results  in worse graphics than not?

HI, I had a similar problem. The culprit is MFAA indeed. When it is OFF, there is no problem. Another solution is MFAA ON but MSAA OFF. Because of some reason Nvidias MFAA is not compatible with DCS MSAA. It is shame because with MFAA ON are edges quite better without any cost of FPS.
