Just getting back into DCS and the F16 after a break. Loving the F16 in VR but is the constant trimming something everyone experiences or am I getting something wrong. Seems like I constantly have to trim especially in the roll axis, it never seems to settle in the centre position just keeps on rolling till I input opposite trim then it just rolls back the other way. It's very small but noticeable and has a big impact when setting up for bombing runs etc.

I'm using a TM Warthog setup with a small deadzone in the pitch/roll axes using the trim hat on the stick. I've checked for input conflicts etc but nothing is obvious. I'm quite happy to believe it's my setup rather than the sim so any suggestions would be welcomed. If it is the sim and other people are experiencing the same thing I guess I'll just have to get used to it.

Cheers,

Hi.

Yes, it's the TGP hanging right side witch unbalance the plane, and yes, the trim is finiky (¿?), hard to find the center position. It would be nice if ED creates a "thing", even if it is useless to put on the left cheek so the plane is more balanced.

Saludos.

Use ~ 1 dot of left rudder trim

Fly fast and leave a pretty wreck

Hi guys, thanks for the replies. I'm not so sure it's the TGP though as it happens in all the training missions and most of those don't have the TGP fitted.

I find it hard to believe the real aircraft would wallow around like this?

I just switched from Stable to the latest Open beta and flew the F-16 and it became incredibly sensitive and wallowy to the point I couldn't land. It was some kind of bug, I have flown and landed the F-16 many times before. I'll try again tonight.

So, might be connected to your issue. Normally the F-16 is a pleasure to fly with minimal trim needed.

There's a little more information on setting up each axis and axis tuning in Chucks guides.

Yeah, you will have to trim using the trim wheels on the trim panel on the left console for precise trimming.

Yeah I have this mapped to one of my rotary encoders - major PITA with DCS is the tiny amount of movement per 'click' of your button box rotary encoders (making controlling things like volume and light knobs all but impossible....100 full encoder rotations for 1/2 range increase in sim lol), so I just use that to my advantage in this case and mapped the trim wheel to one. So now I have tiny aileron trim input per encoder 'click'.

I only ever use the trim hat for course adjustment following dropping wing store, firing HARM etc. Sort out the precise trim later with dial.

You'll find the OB version has updated FM incorporated that has not been released into Stable version yet. Hence differences.
