Northstar98 Posted June 23, 2022 Posted June 23, 2022 (edited) Now that the first round of assets for the South Atlantic map has been released, I thought I'd do some annotations, as I did previously with the Arleigh-Burke. I'll start with the Castle-class OPV: Castle-class OPV c. 1981 - 1989: Spoiler General Characteristics: Classification: OPV - Offshore Patrol Vessel Length: 81 m Beam: 11.5 m Draught: 3.4 m Displacement: 1350 tons standard, 1550 tons full Propulsion: 2× Ruston 12RKCM 320DM diesel engines, 5640 bhp each, 2 shafts. Speed: 20 knots maximum Range: 10,000 nmi at 10 knots. Aviation Facilities: flight deck supporting up to a single Sea King-sized helicopter (though you can land a Chinook, though like this). Complement: 45 crew (9 officers, 36 ratings) + up to 25 marines. Sensors/EW: 1× Type 1006(3) - surface-search and navigation radar (I band, 2D, 32 nmi instrumented range). This radar is non-functional in DCS - the AI is always able to detect obstacles within 300 m. 1× UAN (1) ×1 - ESM (derived from MIR-2 Orange Crop). Like every ship-based EW system in DCS, this is non-functional. 1× SU-2 ×1 - sonar (active-only, HF, short-range). Like every sonar system in DCS, this is non-functional. (I did find this resource though). Note that in DCS, the AI can detect all targets within 25 km. Weapons/Mounts: 1× QF 40 mm Mark IX [Bofors 40 mm L/60] - note that in DCS, this is depicted as a BMARC GAM-B01 [Oerlikon KAA 20 mm/85] which was never fitted to either of the 2 Castle-class OPVs. To make matters worse, the gun is modelled as an M242 Bushmaster, firing 25 mm M792 HEI-T rounds. Forum thread about it here. 2× L44A1 7.62 mm GPMG [FN MAG] - note that this gun is modelled as an M240C, which is a pretty decent stand-in (both guns are derived from the FN MAG) and is chambered for the same rounds. Magazines: 410× 40 mm rounds + 84 on the mount. 4800× 7.62 rounds, in 400-round boxes). Northstar98 Posted June 24, 2022 Posted June 24, 2022 (edited) Next up, Type 12I (Leander-class) Batch 3B frigates. This is currently common to the HMS Achilles, Andromeda and Ariadne in DCS World. Note that Andromeda IRL is a Batch 3A ship and was extensively upgraded from 1977-1980 (see here for more details). Also note that HMS Ariadne IRL has a significantly different HF/DF antenna (UA-13 as opposed to FH-5 - see this for an annotated real-life image). See the spoiler below for a general overview and notes: Spoiler General Characteristics: Classification: FF - Frigate Length: 109.7 m Beam: 13.1 m Draught: 5.5-5.8 m Displacement: 2790 tons standard, 3200 tons full Propulsion: Steam - 2× Babcock and Wilckox oil-fired boilers driving 2 geared steam turbines, 30000 hp, 2 shafts Speed: 27-28 knots maximum Range: 7400 km @ 15 knots Aviation Facilities: Hangar and flight deck for 1× Westland Wasp HAS. 1. Complement: 260 Sensors/EW: 1× Type 965M (AKE(1) single bedstead) - long-range (370.4 km), 2D, A band, air-search radar (*) + Type 1010 IFF (which is the smaller, grey, rectangular antenna on top of the AKE(1) antenna. The Type 1010 is a C band NATO Mk X system, capable of interrogating modes 1, 2, 3/A and C. 1× Type 993 - medium-range (83.34 km), 2D, E band, air + surface acquisition radar. This doesn't appear to be modelled in DCS. 1× Type 978 - short-range (46.3 km), 2D, I band, surface search + navigation radar. This doesn't appear to be modelled in DCS - the AI is able to find obstacles within 1 km, not sure how far away the AI can find surface-contacts. 1× MRS-3 - Mk 56 GFCS derived gun-director for 4.5" Mk 6 naval gun. Includes a Type 903 (short-range (27.78 km), I band, conical-scanning) FCR and an optical sight. In DCS, the system is modelled as a Mk 95 illuminator from IBPDMS. 1× MRS-3 (GWS-22 FCS) - Mk 56 GFCS derived fire-control system for GWS-22 Sea Cat. Includes a Type 904 (short-range (27.78 km), I band, conical-scanning) FCR and an optical sight. In DCS, the system is modelled as a Mk 95 illuminator. 1× UA-8/9 - E-I band direction finding, frequency, PRF, pulse-interval, pulsewidth, rotation period analysis (G band only has direction finding capability) ESM. See this for more information. Unfortunately, this isn't present at all on the model (see this post), not that ESM systems are modelled at all on any DCS ship. 2× Type 668 - I band, noise-jamming ECM. See this for more information (though on the earlier 667, which AFAIK, the 668 is based off of). Again, unfortunately isn't present on the model (though again, no ship based ECM system is modelled at all in DCS). 1× FH-5 - HF/DF (note HMS Ariadne IRL has a UA-13 HF/DF system, which uses the electronics of the FH-5 but a drastically different antenna set up). Non-functional (as with all HF/DF systems) in DCS. 1× Type 184M - MF, active/passive search and track, short-range hull sonar. Non-functional (as with all sonars) in DCS. 1× Type 170B - HF, active-only, fire-control hull sonar for Mk 10 Limbo ASW mortar. Non-functional in DCS. 1× Type 162M Cockchafer - HF, active-only, bottom profiling hull sonar (can be used to identify submerged sumbarines). Non-functional in DCS. (*) Note that the Type 965 is modelled as having a 450 km range, with a maximum elevation of 60°. There's also an entry for frequency: 5.0 - 5.4 × 1010 and 2.0 - 2.2 × 109 - I've no idea what these correspond to, but if they're in Hz none of their values are accurate for any radar on the ship: the Type 965M is an A band radar (216-224 MHz or 2.16 - 2.24 × 1011 Hz), the Type 993 is an E band radar (the E band, which is 2 - 3 GHz (2.0 - 3.0 × 1012 Hz) and the Type 978 is an I band radar (9.41 GHz or 9.41 × 1012 Hz). Mounts/Weapons: 1× 4.5" Mark 6 naval gun [QF 4.5" Mk V ×2] (646 rounds) Ammunition: HE SAP AA (with a timed fuse) Illumination Chaff Currently fires generic 130 mm HE rounds - presumably from the AK-130. 10 nautical mile range, 20 rpm/gun (guns fire individually - at the moment fires simultaneously). 2× Oerlikon Mk 7 20 mm/70 autocannon. Currently modelled as the 20 mm/MK 20 Rh-202 from the Marder IFV. 1× GWS-22 Sea Cat [Sea Cat Mod 1]. 1× A/S Mortar Mk 10 (Limbo) - 304.8 mm ASW mortar, which should fire 400 lb (390 lb?) depth charges, with a proximity and timed fuse. 2× Corvus chaff launcher: Seduction chaff (designed to lure missiles away from the ship) Distraction chaff (designed to clutter up search radar scopes) 1× Type 182 Towed Torpedo Decoy. Magazines: 600× 4.5" rounds in magazine + 40 rounds in turret + 8 rounds in intermediate gun bay, for a maximum total of 648 rounds. (450 rounds total seems to be a common load). 4320(?)× 20 mm rounds in 60 round drums. 20× Sea Cat Mod 1 + 2 training rounds 51× 305 mm depth charges for A/S Mortar Mk 10 (Limbo) 40× chaff rounds + 8 on each launcher Helicopter magazine carrying: 12× AS.11/AS.12 missiles 16× Mk 11 depth charges 8× Mk 46 Mod 2 torpedoes Small arms magazine for L85, SLR, SMG and Browning M1911 Edited August 12, 2023 by Northstar98 added missing hyperlink 1 Modules I own: F-14A/B, F-4E, Mi-24P, AJS 37, AV-8B N/A, F-5E-3, MiG-21bis, F-16CM, F/A-18C, Supercarrier, Mi-8MTV2, UH-1H, Mirage 2000C, FC3, MiG-15bis, Ka-50, A-10C (+ A-10C II), P-47D, P-51D, C-101, Yak-52, WWII Assets, CA, NS430, Hawk. Too small to operate XTB2D and the AJ Savage, the F7F or any of the new jet aircraft. They would have been able to operate the Ryan FR-1, but the type proved to be too fragile for carrier deployment. Along with the Independence class CVLs, they would have received the F8F-1. Others operated in a close support role with Marine F4Us (as some did in Korea), while others would be equipped with a specialized ASW air group. Remarks: CVE 105 - 123. Based on T-3 tanker hull. Only ten units were completed in time to see wartime service. Nine additional units completed after the war’s end; two immediately laid up in reserve without commissioning. Vähäkylä Posted November 3, 2023 Posted November 3, 2023 Now we got the Colossus-class carrier for Argentina, the two Chilean Condell-class frigates, and the Leander's from the Royal Navy that are free with South Atlantic Asset pack. I don't think any of the Leanders from the UK side come with any CIWS. The two Condell class ones do come with a CIWS, but the Colossus-class carrier does not.

I think the Invincible class carriers that come in the south Atlantic pack do have CIWS. I’ll check. Modules- F15, F18, Spitfire, Mirage F1, Persian Gulf, Normandy 2.0, Syria, WW2 assets. Vähäkylä Posted November 5, 2023 Posted November 5, 2023 I don't think the HMS Invincible has any CIWS in this year model in DCS.

They never did IRL, the closest thing is the Batch 3A conversion to 5 Leanders (F57 Andromeda, F75 Charybdis, F60 Jupiter, F58 Hermione and F71 Scylla), completed from the early to mid 1980s, which added GWS 25 Sea Wolf. On 11/3/2023 at 5:54 AM, Vähäkylä said: The two Condell class ones do come with a CIWS Yes, though it is wrong Block. Both Condells IRL feature Mk 15 Phalanx Block 0. However, in DCS, they're depicted with Block 1B (and it isn't a trivial difference (see here for a break down), or at least it wouldn't if they were modelled properly). It doesn't - it's depicted as it was initially - accurate to the Falklands War. In September 1982, after the war, Invincible was retrofitted with 2 Mk 15 Phalanx Block 0 CIWS, which during its 1986-1988 refit, were replaced by 3 Goalkeeper CIWS.
