Yellonet Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 (edited) I wonder if the Saitek Cyborg EVO Force is any good, not that it's a HOTAS but it could act as a cyclic while I use another stick as collective. RedTiger Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 (edited) what is the difference between x52 e x52 pro?? i think i will buy the x52 pro but i want to know if have much difference to x52... then i can save my money The Pro version looks better (black, multicolor lights, chrome-like metal for some of the buttons). The Main difference is that the Pro has 2 springs in the stick gimbal. It provides some very nice resistance as opposed to the looser feel of the regular x52. My advice: shop around and look for a good price on a new x52, the regular version. You can see some good deals on that one if you look around. Saitek products are good quality, but not the exactly the "Cadillac" of joysticks and flight sim products. With a Saitek, you want something new to make sure there's as little wear as possible. Many people have the regular x52 and are satisfied with it. Use that, and if you decide you want something better, consider something from CH or the Cougar. I wouldn't spend the money on a Pro. My x52 pro is sitting in my closet right now. ;) Edited August 27, 2008 by RedTiger
Galimex Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 For me most solid set is Cougar Thrustmaster and CH product Rudder pedals
CAT_101st Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 as soon as I can aford it I will get the Saitek pedles. I have the X52 now and love it. No problems. Murphyd Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 CH Products - Can't really go wrong. I've been using the Pro Throttle, Pro Pedals and Fighterstick for 3 years now without so much as a twitch. Oh and by the way, if you don't already own one, do not forget to budget for TrackIR 4 :) P.S. Here's an excellent review of the Saitek X52 Pro setup - http://www.simhq.com/_technology2/technology_104a.html -- Murphy
PoleCat Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 If you are going to run LockOn under 64bit OS I think the Cougar drivers or lack there off may be the least of your worries. Those I have known that have done so have quickly reverted back to 32Bit OS (usually XP) before long due to a host of misc OS and driver issues. If I recall correctly when there is a profile loaded in your Cougar at boot it it will function just fine under Windows XP_64 even without any drivers. Check Cougarworld for the info you seek to be certain. Out http://www.104thphoenix.com/
Aeroscout Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 I had an X52... and to tell the truth, I still have it and use it... well, half of it. I was at Oshkosh this summer and they had a deal on the CH Fighter stick for 90 bucks. They also have some sims set up there to try the sticks and petals and what not. I liked the feel, so I bit the bullet and got the FighterstickUSB. It was worth every penny, especially since I got it for $10 less than provantage. I now use the stick with my X52 throtle and I can't stress enough how much better it is. The X52 is a toy compared to this. It's got more buttons, it's much more precise and It seems to be of good quality (Granted, it is plastic, but it's really thick!) I can do aerial refueling now that I have this stick. the X52 was just too... sloppy. I'm going to be getting the CH Pro throttle soon too. I do have Saitek petals, and prefer these to CH because they can be made tighter and they are spaced farther apart. Sorry... I nearly wrote you a book, but this is what I suggest.... CH Fighterstick USB and Pro Throttle and the Saitek pedals... and of course, Track IR! DCS Wishlist: 1) FIX THE DAMN RIVERS!!! 2) Spherical or cylindrical panorama view projection. 3) Enhanced input options (action upon button release, etc). 4) Aircraft flight parameter dump upon exit (stick posn, attitude, rates, accel, control volume, control-surface positions, SAS bias, etc). 5) ADS-33 maneuver courses as static objects. 6) Exposed API or exports of trim position and stick force for custom controllers. 7) Select auto multiple audio devices
crazysundog Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 as soon as I can aford it I will get the Saitek pedles. I have the X52 now and love it. No problems. Ditto here, Cat. I've had the X52 (vanilla edition :smilewink:) for about 9 mnths, and it feels great!! I did make a minor mod though: I didn't like the stiffness of the spring, so I twisted wire around the gimbal spring, cinching the coil into itself, and did this in two spots. Now the stick has little resistance, just enough to return to center. Also, I used a small amount of silicone spray to help reduce the friction of the plastic plate. :joystick: This weekend I'm going to pick up my Saitek Pedals, and hopefully start working on another little project: a box with about 12-16 buttons/switches for use with the schval, cannon, and Abris!
crime Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 The X52 uses non-contact sensors (effect hall sensors) on the X and Y axis. They never wear out and have absolute precission (the signals never shiver, I haven't seen that on my previous sticks). I have seen that some people changes the pots of the Cougar for effect hall sensors (I great solution for such a great HOTAS). Unfortunately none of the rest axis, including the throttle axis, use this kind of sensor (even in the pro version :-/). And, what is worst, their precission changes with temperature. You can find yourself with a throttle that shivers a lot and with a lost of about 20% of its range in a hot summer day. The characteristic x52 stick looseness makes it good for helicopter sims. Some people takes the spring off completely. A stick without centering mechanism is supposes to fit better for helicopter simulation. Yes, most people don't like how loosen it feels, but all I can say is that I get so used to it that when I try a "nomal" stick I have problems to control with precission.:joystick:
d0ppler Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 I am also one of the X-52 fanboys. Been playing flight simulators for 20 years now, my last 4 years with the X-52 and it works flawlessly. Legolasindar Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 Hotas Cougar is a good option. It's metal, is nearly identical to the real F16, is very complex, with a programming language that lets us hundreds and hundreds of combinations. Of course there are some negative, as in all joysticks, but is a wonderful option, that you will not regret. I have since I put it up for sale, with preorder of special edition of the 111 Squadron and except for a couple of problems I'm very happy with. -sulan- Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 I wish someone would make a decent FFB stick, my trusty old ms FFB2 is finally wearing out after some 6 yrs or so. I used to have a CH force feedback stick, same F-16 type as the ones they have now.. I believe it was the first force feedback stick and it was really good, a reissue of it with usb and less gigantic base would be sweet!! :)
crazysundog Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 (edited) I would hope something is in the works... Maybe a few requests would kick some tails in gear... http://saitek.com/uk/info/press/Mad%20Catz%20Acquires%20Saitek.pdf On another note, I recieved an unexpected bonus from work, and bought my Saitek Pro Rudder Pedals a month early!!!
