New System -- Has Arrived

The Beast Has Arrived - three months after ordering! 5800X / 32GB 3200 RAM / EVGA 3090 Ultra. DCS smooth as silk at 4k. Have actually underclocked the 3090 a bit.

Thank you - and yes, about a 40% increase in FPS.

 

Persian Gulf at full texture res takes ~ 10.4GB, rising to 10.8GB with mirrors on. My "old" GTX 1080 with 8GB was permanently struggling (perhaps unsurprisingly).

That is great, 40%, wow. Let me do some calculations. Actually I have min. 45 FPS + 40% = 63 FPS --> want it  I´m happy for you and can imagine your happiness. It is always great to invest into a new system and you see, you did everything right.

So mine is already in extra time, bought it in 2015, except for the 1080 which I got 2 years ago. Its time for me to invest as well but prices are really bad, especially for the GPU.

Yes I think you'd be mad to get a GPU now ... I ordered when they were basically RRP (so £1,400 for the 3090, now the same card is £2,400, utterly ridiculous). It'll quieten down a bit over the summer hopefully.

Yes it was - and to be honest the older system was handling the 4k pretty well indeed ... even streaming video to the disk using nVidia Share with just a 10% drop in FPS. 

 

The EVGA 3090 is quite loud at "full chat" - those blowers powerful. I don't mind a few FPS less and keeping that level of noise to a minimum ... keeping power down a little too.

I'll put up a side-by-side video over the next few days of the old system v new system with FPS/CPU/GPU/MEM loads etc.. I'll use the opening AV-8B campaign mission from the ship and do the cold cockpit startup routine ... that was usually the most taxing on the old system.

Okay - did a quick test streaming 4k 60FPS to disk while running a simple flight over clear water, no objects other than the jet, fixed view looking out from the cockpit ahead and no land nearby in the Persian Gulf.

 

On the old system using nVidia Share to send the video to disk was seeing a 10% drop in FPS. With the new system, zero FPS dropped. FPS is locked as if nothing happened. Pretty impressed.

Syria and high textures in the "Inferno" SP campaign is hugely demanding on VRAM. I cap my FPS to 60 for the monitor I am using and TrackIR goes a bit weird over 60fp. Running at 4k.

I was also thinking of getting the 5800X but heard it runs very hot. Would anyone recommend the cooler i7 11700K instead?

MMm... another mission Into the Inferno ... this VRAM usage is now getting silly.

This seems to deliver a 40% increase in FPS ... although it was in a mission which was not early dawn, more early morning.

 

Flashing the BIOS helped, and was needed to get RB.

Slight issue on my system: I have used the Asus mobo easy tuner to boost the performance of the CPU a bit but since my BIOS update the cpu only runs at 4.2GHz at full load (using CPU-Z bench test running all right cores. Why won’t it go to the full advertised 4.7GHz?

Totally unqualified wild guess here . Turbo core defaulted to off with bios update ? I'd check the memory , too , to make sure XMP (or equivalent) is still on .

make sure DOCP (XMP) is on for RAM and PBO is on for the CPU.

 

Best after an upgrade is to load defaults with F5, reboot and then set the Bios as needed
