Crayola,

It looks like you simply darkened the daytime textures to black or almost black. Is that the case? I've always been under the impression that the nightime cockpit "glow" was hard coded and was not a texture file that could be modified. Am I wrong?

Just like the gauges, they have a transparent layer for night time graphics..if you think about it, all it is is just a texture swap.

Hitman, could you give me some idea of a time frame when you are going to start on your F15c/A10 cockpit guages as I would assume you will get rid of the brown hue as well. If you would be so kind, when you are finished, could you send me the part that gets rid of the brown hue. I would be really happy with that gone and just a darker night looking cockpit. I have the green gauges mod and these work for me but man that brown got to go.Cheers.

Yeah I can probably work on it this weekend...all Im doing in school right now are carburetors, and they dedicated only 24 days to learn it (1-2 days would be sufficient). We'll see.

...Yes your second pic is bright but at least you won't get sick looking at it. Yes darker would be the preferred look but IMO, I will take anything other than that brown hue...

OTOH, as bothersome as the orange glow is, I find that a daylight cockpit when it's night outside, is even more disconcerting. Viva la difference! :)

I must be especially dense this evening because I just don't get it. There are separate day and night graphics for the instruments. But as far as I can tell, there is only one set of the panel backgrounds for each aircraft. Alter those colors and the daytime colors are altered, too. Or am I just overlooking the night time versions of files such as "F-15-PEREPLET.bmp" and "F-15-PEREPLET-2.bmp", the F-15 instrument panels in this case. Am I looking in the wrong place?

This is me judging from the gauges Ive reworked, but the daytime textures are slightly different than the night gauges...you can see the knobs in the day textures, but not the night textures. You showed it to me when you sent me my reworked gauge, the night layer....I just applied that info with the gauge I posted a few posts ago. Now I dont know about the rest of the cockpit like the canopy frame, but if its a panel with an instrament on it, it can be worked to work at night.

This is the one you reworked:

All I would do is just place a transparent layer on it and rename it "kabina-01-N" for example.

Unfortunately, it's not. As far as I can tell, there is no night time equivalent for those background panels that the gauges fit into. The gauges themselves are "easy" to change because there are day and night versions of each. I can't think of a way to alter the way the panels look at night without also altering their look during the day.

This is what one of the F-15's panel texture looks like:

F-15-PEREPLET.jpg

I don't see a comparable night version.

Here's what i did for my squadron. I customized the Su-27 and Su-33 Cockpits so that everything looks nice and stands out.

nice looking, but sadly the gauges are a red tint in the russian migs and su27 jets, western aircraft are white and green, like what you did.

above screens would be great for a10 and f15.

Good reason to hang around, ha ha. Don't sell yourself short though. You came to my rescue when others didn't. That tells me something. We have a lot of modders here and you my friend are the only one that answered the call.Saying thank you for help seems like small words. Your help is appreciated at least by me, more than you know. Cheers.

Guys 'scuse my ignorance but I've tried searching web for some RL F-15C cockpit photos with cockpit lights on. I have no idea how it really looks like IRL so if someone has a good reference pics of Eagle's night pit lighting please post 'em here!

The -15C has red lighting. The reason being is that red light doesnt injure your night vision, and doesnt transmit light for long distances. Almost all, if not all, american a/c have red instraments at night because of this.

Well not exactly, for instance BLK40 Night Falcons have greenish instrument lighting just like every other Falcon I saw. I might be wrong so please correct!

Thanks Hitman, are there any photos of F-15C cockpit with lights on?!

a10 cockpit is green all round inside, i think the f15 is greenish and white.

A10 HERE SEE THE GAUGES ARE GREEN

other site to check looks like gauges are a green color this maybe the f15E strike eagle pit though.

safe to say most western jets use green and white color.

I think you should really find out from someone who works on them. Maybe even someone that has flown in some...a lot of the 3sqn guys have or do. Safe bet would be to ask one of them, hint hint Sven.

Agree'd planes did use red lights in cockpit. This was especially true for the late world war 2 planes. The hellcat is an example. Red is still used today, but its not the only one...

(ps: i wasnt aiming for accuracy with the gauges... i just got sick of the old cockpit that's all..)
