I'm completely miffed by this. AI was not great before, but now it's essentially completely broken due to this new "feature", especially for anyone flying any warbirds or non-BVR jets. Did I just misunderstand this patch note?

It's already mentioned in the patch notes:

  • Currently as part of the initial release, clouds do not affect LOS for the AI.

They've said that they still need to do sensor LOS - presumably the AI LOS will tie in here.

did clouds even have any effect on AI in the past? ive never noticed it.

I don't think so, since AI would find you in complete darkness or through clouds and gun you down.

Yeah the previous clouds/weather conditions/time of day never affected the AI's LOS, so these clouds haven't broken anything. Granted they've now made it harder for us humans, but at least ED have a framework/technology whereby they can affect AI's LOS very effectively.

Hi,

you misunderstand,

the AI are working as they always have, eventually the clouds will affect their line of sight, which will lead to more realistic engagements, so hiding in a cloud will work as a tactic

thanks

I guess I never realized that AI do not see clouds as in the past there were rarely enough clouds to make any difference. However now that they are substantial, it seems to me that the only way to play against the AI is to not have clouds turned on at all, otherwise in the merge you would almost always lose due to loss of vision on your adversary, unless completely clear of clouds. Am I wrong?
