I don’t know what you speak of. According to Russian sources 74 were destroyed in Afghanistan, 27 by MANPADs. More were shot down by Contras and Atleast some number was downed during the Iran Iraq were were lost according to sources on both sides. The famous time a Mi-24 was downed by a LGB from a F-15E in Iraq. Many people unfortunetly have died in them, I have no idea where you got the idea none have been shot down and only one person hurt

I'm talking about Croatian war of independence, chill dude. One did go down and was written off, although official version is pilot error so no losses due to enemy action and no KIA (quite an accomplishment since pilots were trained during the war)

Mmmm today we received some news on the R-60 missile (more to come in the next weeks).
I hope to see some news linked to the Kord machinegun as well.
Only one screenshot a few weeks ago and nothing more afterwards...

Seems like it, as you can already see the new A/A missile panel in this video:

Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit

DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!

Power switch is to be expected. But ground and air switch? Also, pylon selector has 4 position. Idk if that means we can take four on two double racks, or take 8 on 4 double racks. Considering I do not think you can carry them on dedicated ATGM pylons, but double pylons have been seen. I hope it is removed and added with missiles. As it would be shame to have it obstruct view when not using R-60

Air / Ground switch may be related to what they did back in the Afghanistan war, when they used the R-60 missiles for hunting down vehicles with hot engines / campsites with recently extinguished fires at the night, so after firing they saw where the missile went and if it did hit anything, they mowed the area later with guns, unguided rockets and bombs, etc ...

So it is possible that the switch turns IR head in the missile (or tracker in the helicopter?) to look down than up for hot spots. But I'm no specialist neither for R60 nor Mi-24's antiair capability since it's quite new for me and I've been "researching" (to be precise, fanboying) this helicopter for at least 20 years.

Helicopters don't fly, they just subdue the air.

The R-60 had some functionality to make it more resistant to things like flares, the sun, and other extraneous heat sources. Its possible that switch turns that functionality off and tells the missile 'kill any hot thing'.

That would be pretty crazy if the designer actually either foresaw that application, or modified the control box to have that functionality after Afghan war feedback. If it works that way.

I thought perhaps, maybe it is just a caging mode to not damage seekers on the ground. But what you say is cooler!!!

Probably just to uncage the seeker. Cuz pilot is flying and searching for targets blind.

How do any of you feel about the loss of   Magnification from the Raduga? Anyone notice any Petro differences when it comes to size of targets seen and and distance? I would think this change of less magnification would make it harder for Petro to spot, but also able to spot more targets at once

With human CPG, it makes ID harder and certianly makes max range shots not have a perfect PK

Hi,

Well, yes, but according to ED, that's closer to reality. Then the change was good. With Petro AI I couldn't find out that he has problems recognizing and capturing a target.

I didn't use the sight yet, but noticed that Petro "search cone" is wider now. To the point that is making harder to get him to lock a target where I'm aiming when there's a lot of targets in the area. I didn't measured yet but looks like is almost 60° now.

Would be great to add a way to choose the angle of the search cone like 15°, 30°, 60° and even a keep scanning for targets mode.

I noticed the same. The wide FOV is 22 degrees and the narrow is 7.2 degrees. The fixed grid is about 7-8 degrees, so you can imagine slewing something a cone the size of the fried grid around. That is unless Petro is using its regular eyes also….

Don’t it’s bad, just interesting to see the changes. And interesting to know that this is how much zoom real Mi-24 CPG had, and that it’s not the microscope we had before.

Yes, that you could aim and hit with it at all...practice and experience should probably be the decisive factor here.

"Closer to reality" isn't the same as good for gameplay.

But it was like that, too, IRL. That's what ED says. And ED wants to simulate as realistically as possible. Now ED is implementing it more realistically, but now this implementation doesn't fit for the 'gameplay'...

The visibility is one of biggest problem in any type of sim games what is hard to do correct, because most of players don't use 4k projectors with the 3x5m big screen, where you can get realistick objects size in realistic FOV. In 27" or 32" monitor what probably use most of players, when you set up FOV to at least 70° , then the object on screen are much more smaller as you would see them in real live. I have no idea how big looks 5 km far away tank while the IRL gunner look thru the scope, but i am sure it is more bigger as it is for us on 27" or 32" monitor at the same FOV. So just set up realistic FOV and don't care how big screen use most of players is not a good way. If ED give me a statictick what will say the most of players use 50 and more inches monitor or TV then i accept this change. Otherwise it should be there some compromis what will be real as possible and what not.

Hey, I haven't upgraded to the open beta - but I was curious if anyone can enlighten us as to what this means?:

It’s just a new symbol for ATGM and it’s rack in mission editor

Thanks! I had hoped that they'd reconsidered loading empty racks or partially loaded racks (as is done for the AH-64). It is n't that big a deal for the Mi-24... but for Blackshark III it'd definitely be nice to have less than 12 missiles sometimes. 🙂 But I was definitely reading too much into it.

As for the Mi-24P - more variety in rocket warheads or maybe the 4xFAB-100 racks would be about all that is left in my wishlist!

Anyway - it is good to know that it is just a loadout screen symbol update!

Is any chance we can get AT-2 MCLOS missile?

I don't see in gunner seat any joystick for control MCLOS type of missile, so Mi-24P variant of Hind probably can't operate AT-2 MCLOS missile. Anyway, it would be fun to control them. Hitting something would probably be difficult, but all the more satisfying when you succeed.

AT-2 MCLOS variant was only used in Mi-24A. I believe CPG used a simple BRDM sight:

The Mi-24D uses a a SACLOS/MCLOS version of AT-2. Here is a picture of the panel to show how different it is. There is only one row of switches to do everything. The whole AT-2 complex was called the 9K113 Raduga-F. When they made Mi-24V, they changed a lot of the 9K113 system to have a digital computer all the other new panel stuff you see in the Mi-24P/V/VP. This was required to change it to make it compatible with the Shturm missile, and becuase of this the new 9K113 complex for the missile was called “Raduga-S.”

So yes, the two systems are incompatible. And the Mi-24A only has MCLOS version I believe.
