Loophole Posted July 24, 2021 Posted July 24, 2021 (edited) I was hoping that the JHMCS alignment procedure would actually enable me to align the JHMCS with the HUD. For me the JHMCS display has always been offset above the HUD, which just makes it awkward to use. The reason for the offset is because my default cockpit view is set to suit my monitor and desk setup, so the centre of the HUD / horizon line is actually about 1/3 of the way up the screen, not in the middle (its a big screen). The JHMCS assumes the middle of the screen is the point you are looking at; in my case it is not. (see attached Zip file for screenshots, if this is not clear). The Ka-50 module actually has a setting to vertically offset its helmet monocle, so it *can* be adjusted to suit my setup. I had hoped this new alignment procedure would achieve the same thing in-game for the F/A-18. (I've only tested re-aligning from a hot start; if the alignment actually has an effect when done from a cold start, then there is still hope!) The attached Zip has screenshots showing me conducting the alignment procedure, with "before" and "after" views of the JHMCS display - there is no noticeable difference between them. Hulkbust44 Posted July 24, 2021 Posted July 24, 2021 Definitely works/is necessary from a cold start.Mobius708
Loophole Posted July 24, 2021 Author Posted July 24, 2021 Thanks; I'll test is that helps. If it does, then it *not* helping from a hot start might be a bug.
Loophole Posted July 24, 2021 Author Posted July 24, 2021 Sadly, I tested it from a cold start with the same result - the HMD display still ends up offset. I think the problem is that the logic used to render the HMD display assumes that the center of the screen is the center of the user's eyeline, and where they are looking by default. Probably works perfectly if you leave the cockpit viewpoint in its default configuration, or have a VR headset, but for my setup that doesn't work - I actually have to look up somewhat to look at the center of my screen.
speed-of-heat Posted July 24, 2021 Posted July 24, 2021 have you tried deliberately offsetting the alignment ? I tried offsetting in vertical by about 2 deg. below reference cross, hoping to make HMD weapon and target symbology to cut out higher then in perfect alignment when in HUD FOV. The result was unacceptable... 2 TD boxes, 5 deg. apart. 2 ASE circles... it was all 'misaligned' So, it's better to have the crosses aligned. This was done in VR (G2) I'm not sure what you can do with the amount of offset you would need. BTW, in my test I was only able to misalign the crosses by what looked like 2 deg. max (in vertical). When I tried a bigger offset I got the alignment 'fail' message. Edited July 24, 2021 by Gripes323
gnomechild Posted July 25, 2021 Posted July 25, 2021 The alignment procedure isn't meant to change the placement in your screen. (Though this really does need to be adjustable). Think of the alignment kind of like INS, it's to make sure the aircraft systems think you're looking in the same place you think you're looking. 3
Svend_Dellepude Posted July 25, 2021 Posted July 25, 2021 What you want is to adjust the viewpoint, not the JHMCS. 1. Turn on JHMCS. 2. Pause trackIr or any tracking (if you have). 3. Press kp5 and kp ENT to reset view. 4. Make adjustments to view with keypad arrows until your HUD and helmet is aligned as you want. 5. Save with R_ALT+ KP 0. This is now your new default viewpoint. 5 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Win10 64, Asus Maximus VIII Formula, i5 6600K, Geforce 980 GTX Ti, 32 GB Ram, Samsung EVO SSD.
ED Team [ED]Ben Posted July 27, 2021 ED Team Posted July 27, 2021 Marked as not a bug because the alignment process is to align the symbology (TD box, D/L contacts etc)within the HMD display, not to align the HMD on your screen. 1 1
