Zorrin Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 It certainly is a challenge to fly. The rudder works totally differently to other heli sims. No more press pedal to turn, stop pressing when you are pointint the right way, even at low speeds the heli seems to have a great desire to turn back to its original course. That's probably because of inertia... And weathercocking. You are travelling in direction at x and have the inertia of your heli going that direction to. By tapping the pedals you are yawing and then inertia wants to keep you going in your original direction. So that's actually realistic modelling... Can't wait to start playing Trench Digger! Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.
GGTharos Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 It is not because of inertia nor weathercocking. It is because of not reading the manual. ;) As a hint, I will highlight ... even at low speeds the heli seems to have a great desire to turn back to its original course. 159th_Viper Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 It is not because of inertia nor weathercocking. crazysundog Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 Thank You, SVK Fox!! I saved every one of those screenies!!
Tartan_Piper Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 Looking good guys. I really need to get saving, haven't upgraded in a long time. BS looks pretty shocking on my comp. Just bought it to get used to the flying and systems i'll have a sweet spec PC when the eng version is out. :D Cheers Tartan. [sIGPIC]http://forums.eagle.ru/signaturepics/sigpic4896_2.gif[/sIGPIC]
Havner Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 It is not because of inertia nor weathercocking. It is because of not reading the manual. ;) As a hint, I will highlight ... Autopilot heading mode? Guess I somewhat figured a little how it works already. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Ryder35 Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 It is not because of inertia nor weathercocking. It is because of not reading the manual. ;) As a hint, I will highlight ... LOL, rest assured I will read every word of the manual once it comes out!:music_whistling: Having said that I did work out that was the problem. Turned off all autopilot modes and now have quite a challenging bird!
GGTharos Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 That was the wrong thing to do. ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Havner Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 That was the wrong thing to do. ;) I think that when you hit trimmer it picks a new heading for heading mode. You can see it by the dot on head line in the HUD. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Raimir Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 Yep, if only I could understand the manual I would be good to go! Eventually hit alt+A and suddenly havea bucking bronco instead of a heli ;) I assume heading hold is on by default? Read manual page 81, the panel on the right with blue buttons. There are many autopilot modes. Try some translator, ti shouldn't be so difficult LockOn SVK Squad bomber. MajorMorningWood Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 Anyone figure how to disable the mouse view? I just want my pointer back for clicking around the cockpit.
Renato71 Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 Anyone figure how to disable the mouse view? I just want my pointer back for clicking around the cockpit. Keylist says ALT+C for toggling clickable mouse/cockpit on and off. I'm selling MiG-21 activation key. Also selling Suncom F-15E Talon HOTAS with MIDI connectors, several sets. Contact via PM.
Ryder35 Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 Read manual page 81, the panel on the right with blue buttons. There are many autopilot modes. Try some translator, ti shouldn't be so difficult Thanks I think it is 2-66 on the translated manual I have:
Ryder35 Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 That was the wrong thing to do. ;) Yep, I worked thet out pretty fast too.;)
Ryder35 Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 Well got the AP workrd out now! had a nice long flight thet ended with me trying to raise the gear and hitting the cutoff valves by mistake oops!
ryuzu Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 (edited) I think that when you hit trimmer it picks a new heading for heading mode. You can see it by the dot on head line in the HUD. It depends what mode you have the Nav system in. I haven't quite worked out the translation of the names, but either way the operation of that changes as you select different modes.... "Normal" waypoint mode seem to be the top middle selection - looks a bit like PAg on the dial. Far left setting (OTKA) is Off while the next to the right I'm not certain about but could be the mode you're talking about. Second from the right is input mode - I presume this is to program waypoints. The 2 settings on the far right I'm not sure of either but one or the other of those could be the mode. I have been in it before but can't remember which position the switch was in :) r. Edited November 9, 2008 by ryuzu

ryuzu Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 Thanks I think it is 2-66 on the translated manual I have: It seems to work more or less like any medium-large size helicopter since they have a Stability Augmentation System or something similar - basically the AP is always engaged to some extent to overcome the instability of the helicopter. The top two modes are bank and pitch hold (K & T buttons) - those should be left in, they make the AP hold the pilot's selected bank angle and pitch. So if you put in 30 degs bank or 5 degs nose down pitch, the AP holds those settings for you as long as the stick is in that position. Without them the helicopter will deviate from the pitch/bank setting almost immediately and the pilot needs to continually adjust to compensate. Of the bottom 2 buttons I usually keep the left one engaged (H button) - "Direction" hold in my translation. Without a proper translation I suspect this is more of a Yaw damper rather than a navigation heading hold as such - but difficult to tell. Anyway it seems to assist with stability in yaw lessening the work required on the pedals. The bottom right button is Alt hold (B button) (this can be set to Rad Alt. or Baro Alt mode via a switch) but I only select this when I want to use it rather than have it in most of the time. Even in hover I prefer to control height manually with collective. I haven't tried the AP coupler at all - I think 'R' engages route following... r.
Phantom_Mark Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 I posted this in another thread already, but I think its worth repeating here as its probably the more suitable place for my comments :D ===================== Well my story so far is as follows :D Instant action...... First thing I did was try to get into a hover and put it on the deck, so I could buy some time to click around and find things etc, I had reasonable control of things but the final 5 metre drop to the ground was extremely difficult, like an ever changing feeling of a cushion of air below, then I touched down too hard, mashed the blades and ended up on my side :D 2nd, 3rd, and 4th try saw the same :D 5th try I got a nice smooth touch down, however I fear I touched down slightly with the front wheel first, chopper yawed excessively forcing the blades into the ground, end ex.....lol 6th and 7th try the same :D, 8th try I made a good touchdown rear wheels first but shut the throttle too sharp maybe, yawed and killed those freaking blades again lol Anyways I have now managed a couple of landings, with all my blades in tact :D, taking off is bloody hard as well tho :S, you really have to keep on top of things 110% of the time of you just end up losing control in a snap, I can see this is really gonna focus the mind, my first take off and landing in the SU25T was a breeze by comparrison :D, and nothing broken lol Havnt fired a shot yet...........off to read the key guide and see if I can figure out some stuff now, and watch some of the official vids for some pointers in the right direction. BTW, runs much better than LOMAC FC on my system, I think I have everything in HIGH detail, but maybe not, lol, dunny speaky russhan :D
Ryder35 Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 Mini-Tutorial by any chance? :) What Ryuzu said ;) I just have the top 2 buttons lit, not the heading one as I think that was the one that was causing it to spin to the same heading all the time. If you want a laugh try all of them off :shocking:

BTW, runs much better than LOMAC FC on my system, I think I have everything in HIGH detail, but maybe not, lol, dunny speaky russhan +1 I've recently installed LO:FC with terrain mods, HDR mod, skins, sound mods and a few others....[all top notch IMHO!!!] My FPS hovered around 20-30, peaking at ~100 when zoomed in, and stuttering down to 8-10 when over cities...graphics settings maxed! In BlackShark, I average 40FPS, and peak at ~70 while zoomed in, and havent tried flying over cities yet. leafer Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 Phantom Mark, congrats. Ok. I got that out of the way. :D I expect the landing a helo to be difficult if not impossible -- pretty much a given. But why is taking off hard? Can you elaborate? Really curious. ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P
