Red Dog Posted September 29, 2021 Posted September 29, 2021 (edited) Working on a custom mission at Andersen AFB I set surface winds to 058 @6 kts (DCS STable - Marianas - F-16 & Vanilla install, no mods) Getting into 3D, none of the 4 ILS: 109.3 RWY 06L; 109.35 RWY 24R; 110.1 RWY 06R and 110.15 RWY 24L) were working. Needles were dashed, Flags were displayed and the morse ID didn't sound. TACAN 54 was Ided correctly and worked fine. Comparing with the Marianas HOT START F-16 INSTANT action mission provided, all 4 ILS were working at the same time. So there was definitely something wrong with my custom mission. As advised and confirmed by another user kind enough to make the test, Setting surface winds to zero solved the issue and all 4 ILS were now working with my custom mission. So IF ILS are supposed to be activated only for active runway depending on winds, then there is a problem Since the 058 winds I set initially should have at least made the ILS on both RWY 06 active where it wasn't the case. IF ILS are supposed to be ON no matter what wind conditions, then there's a problem as well since setting winds to some value turn the ILS OFF. I haven't tested other winds conditions yet I haven't tested other runways ILS in the Marianas yet Thank you Edited September 29, 2021 by Red Dog 1 Have a Bandit Day Red Dog [sIGPIC] http://www.ravico.com/ST/perso/Sig_generale.png [/sIGPIC]

AFAIK DCS ATC doesn't handle multiple (Left/Right) runways yet (or does so poorly) and though the extra beacons/frequencies have been added to the maps, missions need to tailored for each airport i.e. RWY 06L ILS didn't transmit with a 6 knot headwind and ATC doesn't call out 06 Left, etc. However I didn't have an issue with RWY 06R and a 6 knot headwind from 58°T, ... did you allow for the fact that the ME uses the wind direction towards a bearing and check with ATC which direction was active There did however seem to be an issue with the Anderson ILS's for the 24 runways when changing the wind direction, as although ATC switched direction, neither ILS 24L or 24R became active. Hopefully I can get more acquainted with the huge forum in the future and can track the history of these issues Have a Bandit Day Red Dog [sIGPIC] http://www.ravico.com/ST/perso/Sig_generale.png [/sIGPIC]

I confess the quick test I did this morning was simply flying the ILS 06L and 24R and then sitting on RWY 06L ready for departure and trying to get the morse code for all ILS. 06R didn't sound. just like the other 3 didn't either. I will fly all 4 approaches tonight and play a bit more with wind direction and speed. it's a bit of a hit and run to get this working and IMHO will be much simpler once the initial issue is fixed Have a Bandit Day Red Dog [sIGPIC] http://www.ravico.com/ST/perso/Sig_generale.png [/sIGPIC]
Frederf Posted September 29, 2021 Posted September 29, 2021 (edited) Andersen has 4 ILSs. This is a bug that even under the current system where the ILSs switch according to the wind it's still wrong. Under the current system only two should be operating at one time, never four and never zero. Edited September 29, 2021 by Frederf 2
westr Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 (edited) So is this not an f16 only problem, I remember over a year ago ILS worked in the F16 if you added a head wind above 7kts, trying ILS now and you need to have 0 wind in order for the ILS to work. having since tried a mission on the Syria map it appears to be an issue with Caucasus map. Nealius Posted September 3, 2022 Posted September 3, 2022 DCS-wide problem on all maps, apparently. Seems to depend on airbase though, because some airbase ILS systems on other maps work with low winds, while others don't.

Yes, as originally pointed out all the way at the beginning of this thread, this is a long standing DCS core problem: On 9/29/2021 at 12:04 PM, Recoil16 said: ILS reacting incorrectly to wind is a DCS core problem, not a Marianas one, and is already reported: 1 Everybody said: "That's impossible!"
