Having issues contacting Kutasi tower (Operation Piercing Fury)

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hi all. This problem isn't isolated to a particular mission or campaign...but I wanted to give some context with my title.

My issue is that when I tune the tower and ask for startup, taxi, takeoff, etc...I get no replies. I the radio is on per all checklists (T/R, AM Mode, volume up, VHF mode w volume up, etc). I am using radio switch forward when initiating the ATC menu broadcasts...but nothing.

Probably something stupid, but it's bothering me and it's immersion breaking. Any help is appreciated!

Edit: Seems as though it's bugged? When I request takeoff, taxi, I get nothing...but when I enter the runway suddenly the tower gives me clearance?

I had something similar last year, and it turned out I was using the intercom instead of the correct mic switch for the correct radio.

What radio are you tuning, and what mic switch are you using? You mentioned mic switch fwd, is the via keyboard or a HOTAS? What radio is that mapped to in your controls page?

When you open the radio menu with the radio switch, you can check which radio is being used in the text overlay; on the top line, it'll read "VHF AM", "VHF FM", "CB UHF" or "Interphone" (in the current A-10C; of course in other modules the radios will have different names).

Personally, I've given up on the ATC. It's so deeply rudimentary that I don't bother anymore. ATC will deny me entry to an empty runway, and will gladly clear me onto a runway with an AI flight on final approach. But that's really just the tip of the iceberg. The in-game ATC is nowhere near realistic. You're not going to learn good behavior by listening to the in-game ATC, and quite possibly you'll get a wrong understanding of ATC comms and procedures.

Long story short, you should of course be able to communicate with the in-game assets via radio (be it ATC, wingmen, tankers, JTACs, or the carrier if you dip your toes into naval waters), and a short track might help us help you. Then once you can reliably call ATC, feel free to ignore him until ED's long announced ATC overhaul makes it into the game. 😄

Haha good to know it's not just me, and yes I saw a few posts regarding an ATC overhaul...man that would be great because this iteration leaves a lot to be desired.

I tried it on OPF mission 2 and works fine.  What frequency are you setting on what radio panel?  MIC switch forward is for VHF AM only.

Yeah I just got it to work by restarting. Seems unreliable but, at least it's working now. Thanks Taz
