r-unit Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 My affinity setting was already set to 2 cores... I'm getting high fps with no complaints in vista. So, Does black shark run the best on windows vista64, or window xp pro. 32 bit ... ??
RedTiger Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 (edited) Wait...so you guys naturally run stuff that isn't necessarily dual-core optimized on only one core? For those of you who play it, do you set LOMAC to one core? Is that the normal way to do it? You all are acting like you would have never thought to set the affinity to all your cores. I would have never bothered to set the affinity to just one! :) EDIT: Take this fellow for example: That's work for me, on vista 32 , E6850@3ghz , 2Go Ram , 8800 GTX. 10/20 FPS more on many mission. many thank's !!!! So it DOES sound like you all were assuming it should be run on one core. Strange. I've never even heard of changing affinity until I read about it hear on these boards concerning LOMAC. I just assumed that there was no point. Can someone clarify so I'm not in the dark? :( Edited November 21, 2008 by RedTiger
sharkfin61 Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 Strange enough, my GUI-screen runs automaticaly on 2 cores while with the 3D action it switches back to core #0 only... (if I don`t do anthing against it :P. In fact, my fps gain during the "Instant Play" mission is about 2 times (from 17fps to 34 fps with the shkval on, searching the ground) Runs on a notebook with Centrino Duo T2300, 7600 nVidia mobile, 2 GB RAM. deviletk Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 Sorry if this has been posted here but im off to bed FAST and just wanted to share what i found. CPU Affinity program that you can setup what programs you want. So you dont need to alt+tab it. I didnt really get it to work (i think) as i set LO to 1 of the CPU´s but when checking taskmanager it showed both cores. Maybe it overrides though, not sure, too little time as its very late. I tested set the affinity though before i searched for some prog that could do it so we dont have to alt+tab BS, and LO went from very good to super. :) Didnt see any readme or "manual" for it. Very straight forward though and very small program. Comes from Toms Hardware and i virus checked it. Np as i could see. Give it a go and tell us if it works. :) LINK PROGRAM: http://images.tomshardware.com/2004/05/28/getting_more_bang_out_of_your_dual_processing_buck/taskassign.zip LINK AFFINITY EXPLANATION: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/bang-dual-processing-buck,815.html Best regards Alex Regards Alex "Snuffer" D. sirchuck Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 Seems task assign utils does not work for vista (32/64). just hope there will be dual core patch soon.
Cosmo81 Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 http://www.geocities.com/edgemeal_software/SetAffinity/index.htm works on vista for me, starts the game with both cpus on now.
Kurtz Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 Definitly a healthy FPS boost on my Vista32/core2 8200/8800gt rig. I can now set res to 1280x800 with everything set high to except view distance to medium. The start of Mission2 is a reasonable benchmark mission for me.
sirchuck Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 oh thats nice. Util named set affinity II from your download link work very nice for vista 64!!. thanks Cosmo81!
Shrubbo Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 Awesome, checked the performance monitor and sure enough only 1 core of my dual core maxed. Brought up task manager, set it's priority to high and affinity set to use both cores. Frame rate more then doubled at the place I am doing my benchmark. Both cores in use at around 60% So winna tip of the year:thumbup: BTW vista32 dual core 3ghz, 4gig pc800oc ram, 260 gtxoc graphics. i9-9900K,Z390 Aorus Master, 32GB GSkill Trident F4-3600 DDR4, ROG Strix RTX 2080 Ti, Oculus Rift S. clanitho Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 hi, Be careful to change affinity only when you have launch a mission, when you see the small image in the middle of your screen (pilot with red start on helmet). Before this image , launcher.exe and dcs.exe are on affinity on core 0 and 1. Its only when the mission is lauched that dcs.exe is on core 0. Work for me on vista32 bit, i double my fps on many mission. Sorry for my bad english :smilewink:. Clanitho from Paris , France. Shrubbo Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 Caution needed when "optimizing" WARNING WARNING WARNING I saw this thread from =Prophet= http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=33715 about optimizing Blackshark by forcing it to use both cores and I must say.... .....don't try and be a clever SOB. I really liked the improvement that came from setting the affinity to both cores on my system (Man who wouldn't! 100% in some cases!!!) but I thought that it was a pain in the ass to do it every time. So I goggled away to find a way to do it automatically. As per usual I found a way thanks to google..... http://www.robpol86.com/pages/imagecfg.php Seemed to work except for one tiny little problem... The "protection" decided that it didn't like what I had done and yep I just smoked an activation. That's just super. ED, I truly love your sim, I have waited a long long time for someone to make a chopper sim that actually felt like a chopper and have been clicking on these forums watching and waiting for longer then I care to remember, even going to the extreme of buying a version I can't read or understand just to get some flight time before the english version comes along..... but jeeze I hate what "protects" it. I don't recall seeing anywhere to be cautious trying to optimize your system. I know it's your choice to use it and it's our choice to buy it but I don't have to like it especially when 33% of my "activations" just blew away for what I feel is a totally bs reason. i9-9900K,Z390 Aorus Master, 32GB GSkill Trident F4-3600 DDR4, ROG Strix RTX 2080 Ti, Oculus Rift S. Legolasindar Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 (edited) All this programs change affinity all time you launch the game. You need first run this program and second launch game. For change forever affinity you need a microsoft application called Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit. BECAREFUL: This is a complex and profesional program, use with careful. I extract this instructions of at post of other forum, is for version 4.1, actually version is 5.0. To set affinity permanently in a supported and effective (albeit slightly limited) way: 1- Install this: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en 2- Start.. Programs... Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit 4.1... Tools... Compatibility Administrator 3- At the bottom of the tree on the left is "custom database". Right click it, Create New... Application Fix. 4- Type in a name (say, the program name) and point it at the .exe of the program in question, and click next. 5- Choose "none" for operating system mode, and click next (you don't want any of the fixes on this page). 6- Choose "MultipleProcAffinity" from the list and click next. 7- Click finish. 8- Click save and pick a name and location for the database. 9- Right click the database and pick "install". nemises Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 I used to use a freeware app called PrioAff Google it ... it allows you to assign affinity in any combo to any exe via a shortcut and set of arguments. Pretty straight forward (For my part, I get no benefit in BS from setting to 2 CPU affinity on my AMD 64 X2 2200 in XP pro)
