Anyone here with an i9 12900k & DDR5?

I'm considering upgrading my 10700k to a 12900k but would appreciate if anyone here that already has this CPU could let me know the impact on DCS VR that they have experienced...

Thanks in advance for any replies...

sorry DDR4 user here.  But all the current reviews seem to say that DDR5 will make very little difference,  today

What was your previous CPU? Do you see much difference after upgrade to Alder Lake?

9700k, yes considerable in terms of CPU frame time reduction, which means things like the super carrier deck or other AI rich environments are much smoother

Functionally none.

the improvement was solely in the reduction of CPU frametime, there was no improvement in GPU frametime or nothing measurable.

however, there are places that have very high densities of AI objects, the super carrier is an example, but there are others where the CPU copes better with them and you can maintain frame rates as result.

in most conditions I remain GPU bound.

As for a target of 60hz, I can’t deal with the strobe effect it has on my eyes, so I couldn’t tell you for certain but it seems like an achievable goal. based on frame times.

not really, i normally just use the super carrier cold start mission which has massive cpu spikes

Hi just made some test with my 8600k. 2 min long test on deck, doing nothing

4.2Ghz :

CPU frametime:
Median: 19.6 ms
99th percentile: 22.3 ms
99.9th percentile: 24.5 ms

4.6Ghz :

CPU frametime:
Median: 18.2 ms
99th percentile: 21.9 ms
99.9th percentile: >30 ms

5Ghz :

CPU frametime:
Median: 17.4 ms
99th percentile: 19.6 ms
99.9th percentile: 21.5 ms

On cold start SC mission, could you tell me your results, I have same settings that you have on your GPU thread.

Thanks

Sorry if I missed it, but what CPU do you have, and what speed is your DDR4.  Thanks,

@speed-of-heat

I'm a little bit disapointed with my jump from 8600k@5.1ghz to 12600k@5 Ghz at the moment.

Here are my tests :

For the SOH276 track it's not CPU bounded so the results seems fine, even if the difference of CPU time is very low.

I am really far from your 12.5 ms of cpu frame time. On Cold start mission I stop at 2 min when the second F18 goes out of screen. I only have 2ms of gain, which is only 12%...

Here are my graphics settings :

thanks for your help.

Sorry there is nothing that comes to mind. Are you running windows 10 or 11? Did you correctly install the motherboard and chipset drivers?

Win10 yes

could you please make a 2min fpsVR history on DCS super carrier cold start ? I stop recording just when the 2nd F18 goes out of my screen.

Thanks !

I run the ai overclock on my board which gives me.. a nominal 5.1/5.3 pcore overclock I say nominal because in practice it hasn’t really gone above 5.1 for very long.

I did not install my new 12900K yet, but from what I read the 'K' in the name is a joke this time around. I've been pushing my 4670K 20% higher for 7 years. The new generation is already too pushed and too binned to expect much overclock out of them. I went all-in with 12900K because of that, although I plan to only use P-cores as single thread. And for RAM I also gambled to order DDR4 4000cl14 hoping to run it in Gear 1. Next week will know if it worked.
