DimeTime Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 Hello all, I'm going to start with saying I am still very new to all of this so I'm not %100 confident in what I am doing yet. But I have been struggling with this issue for about 3 days now and I am unable to figure out the issue. I will have about 5 to sometimes 20 minutes of gameplay in DCS world with no issues. Then with no warning the game will crash and the computer will restart. The thing is, its not really a DCS problem, and it is more of a my computer problem, because the exact same thing happens when I'm running Microsoft Flight Sim. My set up is: Omen 30l Desktop running Windows 11 (64 bit) -AMD Ryzen 7 5800X processor -1 TB NVMe m.2 Solid state drive -NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060Ti 8GB dedicated memory -hyperX 16 GB DDR4-32000 XMP SDRAM Again, bear with me as I am still very new to all this. I've tried everything I have read on forums and videos. Updating all my drivers, updating windows in general, uninstalling and reinstalling the games. I've tried the Steam version and the stand-alone version. I've tried editing my page file virtual memory. Nothing helps, simulators always crashes in the middle of gameplay. the only thing I haven't found a definitive answer on quite yet is if Windows 11 can actually run these type of flight sims. Some have said yes, some have said no. Any help is greatly appreciated, and Happy Holidays!
Flappie Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Hello and welcome to DCS World. Please attach the most recent ZIP file you can find inyour "Saved Games/DCS.../Logs" folder. If you cannot find any ZIP, imply attach your dcs.log file (it might appear as "dcs" in Windows). ---
Csgo GE oh yeah Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 (edited) Is your PC overclocked at all ? I just recently went to windows 11 myself, going to test now but your post does not make me hopeful There was one thing that caused me a lot of headaches, the "HAGS" setting in windows. It is enabled by default in windows 11, and stands for "hardware accelerated GPU scheduling". It didn't work at all with VR and maybe that goes for 2D as well. The setting is in "settings > screen > advanced graphical settings" (or thereabouts). I turned it off Edited November 29, 2021 by Csgo GE oh yeah
DimeTime Posted November 29, 2021 Author Posted November 29, 2021 This is the only log that is shown in the saved games folder, I was expecting a few more considering how many times I have been trying to run it. I forgot to mention this is a brand new desktop. Took it out of the box black friday and downloaded DCS and Microsoft Flight Sim, and have yet to fully play them. I posted here because everyone here seemed to know what they were talking about far greater than some of the other forums I have visited lol. dcs.log 5 hours ago, Csgo GE oh yeah said: Is your PC overclocked at all ? If you could breakdown a test I could run that world help you out I'm more than willing to do so.
DimeTime Posted November 29, 2021 Author Posted November 29, 2021 I just ran it again, got about 2 minutes in, same results. I've attached that log as well. dcs.log
Csgo GE oh yeah Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 (edited) Well if you didn't overclcok it yourself it's probably not overclocked. But i think you should run a stress test to see if your system is stable or not. That way you know if it's your PC or DCS. Try something like Prime 95, it's a very small free program that stresses your computer. You don't have to run it for hours, just a minutes first to see if it crashes. https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/prime95-download.html After you tested the CPU+Memory (just run the "blend" test) with the program above, download "heaven" benchmark (also free) to test your graphics card. https://benchmark.unigine.com/heaven Edited November 29, 2021 by Csgo GE oh yeah
Flappie Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 (edited) @DimeTimeI see your DCS freezes. Please attach your DxDiag log. Here's how to get one. Edited November 29, 2021 by Flappie ---

As requested DxDiag.txt @Csgo GE oh yeah I will look into running these as well. What exactly should I be looking for? 1
DimeTime Posted November 29, 2021 Author Posted November 29, 2021 Well that would make sense lol. My apologies
silverdevil Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 @DimeTime - looks like Windows is using a dynamic pagefile. have a look at this post. https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/virtual-memory-low-heres-fix/ since you have 16 GB of RAM i suggest making the static size of at least 24 GB (1024*24=24576) this windows element could very well be causing both sim issues. good luck. The problem does not seem to come from storage. I see you're having a number of "blue screens of death". This looks like a global hardware or driver issue. Try resintalling your NVMe drivers. If it doesn't help, take a look at tensions provided by your PSU. Are they stable? ---
DimeTime Posted November 30, 2021 Author Posted November 30, 2021 @Flappie I reinstalled the driver I found for NVMe, not sure if it was the correct one but it seemed to be. There was no help. Could you help me with how to go about checking the PSU? Also, does the computer being plugged into a surge protector create problems for the power supply? @silverdevilBy setting it at a static size, is that changing both the Min and Max sizes to the same amount? Or doing it the way of Min being x1.5 and max being x3? Sorry for all the questions everyone but I appreciate the responses!
Flappie Posted November 30, 2021 Posted November 30, 2021 Try HWMONITOR. It will display your PSU voltages among other things. Take a look at your +5V and +12V volages. Here are mine: ---
Sacarino111 Posted November 30, 2021 Posted November 30, 2021 Hi. To me, it looks like a PSU problem. I had a similar issue with Star Wars Squadron and a new and more owerfull one did the trick

Since you just got computer, you may have support from manufacturer. Quality control during COVID has suffered. I read this morning that some poor guy got a new Bronco and the serpentine belt was installed reversed. My point is the PSU could have been installed without checking it. Have you added anything new to it like new hardware? Hard drives, video cards, etc? DimeTime Posted November 30, 2021 Author Posted November 30, 2021 @silverdevil Got it, thank you! I have added nothing to it. Out of the box, let it set itself up automatically, downloaded Steam, MicroFlightSim, and DCS. From there its been all troubleshooting. Installing and upgrading drivers and so on. @FlappieIs yours the Pro version? I just downloaded the 1.46 and it is not showing me a +5 and +12 volt monitor, and i double checked that i had every dropdown bar opened.
Flappie Posted November 30, 2021 Posted November 30, 2021 Nope, I used the same version as you. Our motherboards are different, and I guess HWMONITOR is not able to retrieve your MB voltages (unless they are down below the list?). ---
DimeTime Posted December 1, 2021 Author Posted December 1, 2021 Just looked through it again. Must not be there for mine. I did get ahold of HP today though, and explained my problems. They have decided to have me send the desktop bad as they believe either the graphics card of the PSU may be defective. I guess we will see when I get it back. Thank you for all the help! 1
