For the Syria and Persian Gulf map, can the mission editor allow users to control the flow and direction of ocean currents? How about being able to change the depths of channels like the Strait of Hormuz?   What about allowing environmental disasters such as oil spills or burning oil wells?

If ED ever put time or resources into something like this before sorting out basically every other aspect of the sim... I'd be genuinely furious. Just saying.

Ships have a very simplified physics model, and I'm certain that currents don't exist in DCS (heck, they don't even exist in dedicated submarine sims to my knowledge).

As for changing the depths of channels, nah. I want realistic depths, doesn't have to be to a high reolution (the pre-2.5 caucasus map would be perfectly adequate)  with maybe autogen clutter on the sea floor. As of yet, we can't take the camera underwater without an exploit (though there is an 'underwater' present, though pretty basic).

If you mean opening up the TDK for modders, then yes, I am all for it.

I would however, be interested in deformable terrain, allowing for 3D craters, flattening and for creating dug-in positions and trenches, but I strongly doubt we'll see that any time soon (and the only examples I can name that have this so far are Outerra and now, War Thunder).

TDK can use realistic deep sea floor data, the same situation with add heigh maps. ED has no plans to get the TDK for modders. Deformable terrain require changes on the 3D engine and the core.

If ED add that funtionality (appears with a trigger on other sub simulator game) will has work as part of the mission editor and dont required the core game, only a example, ed has add a sun / moon display to the ME, and dont see the forums "on fire" by them.

In fairness, the 'sun/moon' has a direct impact on what this is - a flight sim which occurs in the skies. And the sun and moon have pretty large impacts on the sky, I would say. So those were important developments.

This isn't a ship simulator (at least not yet, and I dare say not for another decade). I fail to see what modelling water currents will bring to DCS. A decent damage model for ships would suffice at this point.

Yes, I know it's just a wishlist... but if we're going that direction then we might as well start asking for dynamic, shifting sands in the desert, affected by real-time physics for each sand grain, so we never see the same dune twice!

I mean, I would love to see higher fidelity ships, but even constrained to the naval aspect, there's much bigger fish to fry than ocean currents.

Someone need remenber DCS has a air / land / sea simulator. DMs has on progress, and planned to all diferent assets. SC has open to build Sea modules and develop with a dedicated team. We will expected see more improvements, only has a matter of time.

I think we will have to agree to disagree that DCS is a land/sea simulator. I respect your opinion of course, but as things stand, I don't believe that it is. In the future? Maybe.

I never disagreed that damage models were in progress - that's why I said it was more important to me.

Anyway, to be honest, I have a hunch the OP started this topic as a joke and we've all got a bit carried away.

Be a very good boy and Santa might just bring you one.

Side note: Santa's Sleigh module for DCS! There must be unclassified documentation on the reindeer flight model out there somewhere...

Damn it... I'm getting carried away again.

After a lost of reasearch (I googled "santas sleigh specs", (I may have mispelled "Santa!) and hit the first item on the list without looking fully at what it was)  this was revealed to me!

https://1013theriver.ca/2014/12/23/santas-sleigh-technical-data/

REMEMBER!!   Just cos its on Google doesnt make it not classified....as we are always being told.....

Its definately the pony but what with all the horse traders using bots to buy them up, upgrading from my dog is going to be really expensive. Just hoping Mutley Core becomes a thing soon......

I see. As a former horse show jumping judge, I believe it's important you get the most suitable version.

Ah - the then would whichever is the slowest, most docile and compliant. Ideally one used to working with children to match my personality and I would like one that is likely to still be able to walk in a year's time. i know some can be really fineky about their drivers (or is it riders?) too. TBH the ride and power isnt really that important though as, in my expereience I will probably still spend most of the time endlessly adjusting its tack whist eyeing up my neigbours purebred and wondering which of the broken fences will stop me riding it today.

(Not sure how much more Horse v DCS/GPU analogy Ive got left. :-)))
