Rotors Running - Refuel/Rearm - it's possible!

Had been wondering for a while if you can or cannot get the ground crew to rearm and/or refuel you at the FARP while your rotors are running. A little digging through the manual showed the way!

Set your Radio Communications selected all the way to the right. Should read something like HON.

Make sure your intercom flip switch is up and voila! You can get those workshy b**tards to get you ready to rock 'n' roll.

Thought I read somewhere too if the intercom wasn't available you could also open the cockpit door.

yeah well first off zorrin that has been posted a few times already how communicating with ground crew works =) but seems not everyone got it yet so good post.

there are 2 ways to talk to the ground crew,

first and maybe better way is to use the intercom to talk to those rats =)

second way is ENGINES OFF, open door and directly speak to them...

well at the startup it wouldnt really matter much since the door is open anyhow at startup so you could order your payload before starting up the heli...

The big difference in this 2 ways is if you are coming from a flight just landing to rearm, refuel... you wouldnt wanna turn everything off just to talk to the ground rats, so in that case you would better use your intercoms

The whole point is that with the second option you can do it Rotors running. The manual doesn't say anything about that. Was an eye opener to me anyway!

I did a hot reful on Sunday and didn't switch the radio back to the tower channel or ask for permission to take off. As i began to pull pitch the ground crew started yelling at me "What the hell do you think you are doing!!!" Lol! Switching over to the tower and asking for take off permission shut them up. Nice little touch. :D

Nice find McVittess! Was asking me the same question about the nagging ground crew after rearm/reload. So I have the answer now.

To me this is the main problem of the manual, it tells you the function of the buttons, but doesn't tell you when to use, and the consequences on the system.

Agreed! The manual needs to explain why you do things to give the reader a greater understanding of what they're doing. This is the one area where the manual misses the target quite badly.

Did you went back on the intercom channel to check if they were still yelling at you? I have the impression that not matter what you do they yell at you.

In real life this is called "Hot Pitting" or performing a "hot pit" , it works great in the sim, the only thing is if you leave the selector on Hon when you move the helo maint guys will be yelling at you even after the bird had been refueled and /or rearmed, so turn the selector to something else before you lift back off.:joystick:

Haha! No, I didn't switch back over and see if they were still mad...hell, I was hot footing it into the danger zone while they were going back to motor pool to sip Vodka and play cards! I say: "To hell with 'em!" if they wanted to keep bitchin'!:D Anyway, they never saw me again as a 125mm shell blew me into a million pieces 10 minutes after I left...:(

This has already been covered in the User FAQ:

Q: Is there a way to select the payload in MP games, other than what is already preloaded in the mission?

A: The payload can be chosen "live" in the mission by connecting with the ground maintenance crew. Make sure you are in a serviceable area (airbase apron or FARP). When stationed on a FARP, appropriate resources, such as a weapons depot, will need to be present in your proximity. Communication with the ground crew is possible by "voice" if the cockpit door is open and the APU/engines are off or by radio when the cockpit door is closed and/or the APU/engines are running. To link up with the ground crew by radio, you need to configure the radio accordingly (turn on the intercom, switch the radio to ground link ("НОП")).
