Tank50us Posted January 5, 2022 Posted January 5, 2022 No, I'm not talking about the Queen Anns Revenge or the Black Pearl, I'm talking about the more modern incarnation of the 'Pirate Ship', which are mostly just common fishing boats and small merchant ships armed for commerce raiding. If added, such vessels could make for interesting scenarios where we have to land 'inspection teams' onto larger ships to check the ship over, or to protect merchant traffic from raids by small craft. I know we have the armed speedboat currently in DCS, but some more additions would be nice to have for this purpose. 5 1
Dscross Posted January 5, 2022 Posted January 5, 2022 Agreed. There is a startling lack of naval assets in DCS world. Small boat teams, Somali Pirates. (Is Somalia even a national option in the collations?). I'll save the list of ships I'd like to see for another time, but yeah, more ships, more boats. There are no small civilian boats with polygon counts that don't look like a deformed marshmallow in DCS world. what about RIB's for big boat navies? Or that... That SOF boat the teams used? I can't remember the name due to a cerebral methane embolism at this moment, but I think someone will know what I mean. The boat with the 25mm Bushmaster that can be air transported? Anyone? Yeah, I want those too. 2
joey45 Posted January 6, 2022 Posted January 6, 2022 There's mods but nothing official. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. Actually, I wish DCS core came with some more civilian units in general (a few vans, cars, trucks, aircraft, pedestrians, etc.), but that's for another wish thread I suppose. No Opel's, no GM pickup trucks, and those are used all over the world. I think Eagle Dynamics is getting better, adding more units all the time, but the oversight of missing ANY Royal Navy (official) units, is not great. As to the Somali pirates, it's just a generalization as it happens all over. But yeah, I'd totally use the PG or Syria maps, hell even the Marinas as it's mostly water with just a few islands. I'm hoping that a Royal Navy/ British asset pack drops with the South Atlantic map. Going to be kind of hard to do Falklands stuff when only we only have the A4 and it isn't an official mod, and the Harrier in DCS isn't even close to a sea harrier. Also, there isn't a Orlikin 20mm AA gun in DCS world, which again, kind of need for South Atlantic stuff. (And the OKN 35MM or Iran and everywhere else, it's a popular AA gun.) ...and Sheep. seriously, sheep live all over the world, and I want to simulate bombing and strafing some, help me out here Eagle Dynamics.
upyr1 Posted January 7, 2022 Posted January 7, 2022 Pirtate crafts and techinals would be great for the insergents

Honestly I was going to start a thread requesting this. I want to be able to place both infantry and military vehicles on civilian ships. Basically simulating the armed personships we saw in world war II but in the modern world. I don't think it's too far of a stretch to think that especially in the Persian Gulf we wouldn't see things like rolling ads's, sea Rams, or avengers, hell even infantry fighting vehicles placed on the decks of merchant ships to give them some protection against incoming anti-ship missiles. Or to defend them against small boat attacks, or just give them a chance to survive if attacked by an actual warship. Personally I think it would be a rather cool option.
