Why do all Air and Ground assets now use T/R ONLY? This is certainly not correct.. Otherwise why is an A/A setting / selector in the F-18, F-16 A-10??? as far as I recall, F-16 (and F/A-18, but not 100% sure) never used A/A for air refuleing in DCS, at least not since 2019.
Esac_mirmidon Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 The A/A Tacan mode in the fighters is for fighter to fighter DME or Father. Thats why " You must think in russian.." Thats why While fighters do use it between each other, "A/A T/R" should be the mode used for the tanker as well, if you do decide to use the tacan instead of your radar/datalink. "T/R" is for ground stations. IRL the tanker is setting "A/A T/R" so if you use "T/R" you wouldn't get any information from it. So this is still not implemented correctly. My source is me and the over 3000 hours I had in the 135, including as a FTU Evaluator and Receiver Instructor. Edited October 13, 2024 by Chain_1 4 1
Esac_mirmidon Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 Thats why i was talking about A/A Tacan mode on fighters exists. Only DME. Never argued about Tacan Mode for tankers, if is the same its ok. I hope ED will model this feature as It its for the 135, and the 130 1 " You must think in russian.." There are some cases of A/A being used by tankers in real life ( like the KC-10 ) but not the ones we have in DCS apparently they should use T/R. To clarify, all tankers do use A/A mode for refueling, but you are correct when you say that not all give bearing. I can pm pics of my old checklist, the tacan panel, and the HSI displaying the information for a/a (all unclass of course) if you want. 3
