GGTharos Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 4 AIM-120C, actually, more if they want to put them on wings (in stealth pods, no less!). Top speed won't matter in most cases. The Su isn't going to be doing any supersonic dashes either if it wants to get back home. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Pilotasso Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Id rather take a VLO fighter with 2 missiles than a flying barn with 12. In certain situations youll be ale to have a higher degree of success with VLO than the later, specialy if you get shot down before throwing anything yourself. :D .
tflash Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 I think it is honest to say that if you look at specifications an F-35A should be able to replace an F-15C in the air defense/QRA role. Lockheed-Martin is proposing this BTW. I'll take an F-35A in Lockon with 4 Amraams any day. Just being many seconds closer to the bandit before being painted would make such a huge deal that I wouldn't hesitate for a split second. Don't forget an F-16 chase plane cannot keep up with F-35 in acceleration, while it is one of the best performers in this area already. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
LaRata Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 Its Supose the AIM-120 do Not Fail to Hit Their Target ... But in the Real World AIM has failet to Hit Their Target in real Combat. One F-35 that Fail to Hit using AIM will be in real trouble ... LaRata
GGTharos Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 No; AMRAAM has a certain Pk at various ranges. The F-35 can get closer. And RL ... many more 120's have hit than missed. :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
LaRata Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 (edited) More Close ... less distance ... more chance to detect the F-35. It supose the f-35 shot at long distance not short one... LaRata Edited March 13, 2010 by LaRata update
GGTharos Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 The purpose of stealth is to not be attacked while you are attacking - or at minimum to give you an SA and initiative advantage. In this case it also happens to give your missiles better Pk. Plus, we're talking about enemy aircraft coming in with an A2G payload ... what's the problem here? CoNa Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Since the last delays and cost increases it seems like Denmark is rethinking the F-35 and concidering the F-18 super hornet instead. Military prefer it over the Gripen apparently.
Pilotasso Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Theres 2 sides of this ^^^^ 1-for one side the F-35 has become a luxury item, not the affordable aircraft it was supposed to be. 2-It is a form of pressuring 1 manufacturer in the tender for a better offer by announcing other as favourite. Everybody is cutting, not just for lack of need, but to the economical crysis, wich unlike it is often said its aggravating rather then recovering. .

Wilde Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 Sounds like this thing is extremely loud. One can hardly hear the engine turn. Could be the whistling is a distortion caused by the abused mike.
mvsgas Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 The whistling could be cause by the stabilization system, or maybe the engine like a PW engine in the F-16. zakobi Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 Is it a wrong designation in the videos? I thought the V-STOL version was the C.
herr_LaSk Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 The C version is the carrier version, the B version is the V-STOL.
