P-51D 3d Model Rework

If possible, time permiting,stars aligning, etc..

Could the P-51 please be brought up to the external visual levels like the Spitfire, 190 Anton and P-47?  The cockpit is nice, but the external models are painful and really limit creativity in skins.

Why isn't this brought up more with the P-51? Its in a horrible state in terms of 3D Modeling.... Would be nice if we can get a update!

Agreed, was it the very first Warbird DCS made? How many years ago?

Yup. Spring 2012. Followed shortly (I think?) by that free, civilian configuation. Since then It got one cockpit and external textures repaint (after DCS switched to deferred shading), one small antennas and cockpit remodelling (when "D-25" was added) and one propeller animation rework together with all other warbirds last year. The rest of externals is still 11 years old though and indeed starts showing its age a bit.

From my point of view all the default skins of the Mustang should be updated. I felt them like they're WIP from 10 years ago. But when you dress her in a proper way you can feel her different. Also if someone is interested you can download those improved default ones: Magic Zach did a great job, not a definetly solution but a great hotfix BTW.

It can definitely be enhanced, but you're all forgetting she had a revamp a couple of years ago when D-20 model came to be. It's not "the same old model we got in 2012" mates.

^ Nah, some of us older DCS players are not forgetting anything. You're right, it's not 100% the same old model...

... it's about 98% old model instead, because apart from removal of two antennas, change of the radio, and aforementioned propeller animation, the rest of external model is exactly the 2011-2012 mesh. 

Mind you, for its age I still consider it "good enough" (and certainly more accurate than Dora-9!), but I wouldn't call later changes a "revamp" - more like a "dusting off" instead

And textures, they were upgraded IIRC, both external and internal in the cockpit and systems related to new DM.

Yeah, maybe some older users remember that, but most people tend to forget those even if those happened just last year .

After ED changed the format of the skins the default "Big Beautiful Doll" still looks like someone poured milk all over it. This was never addressed and fixed.

If you were lucky enough to have downloaded that skin made by the late Tom Weiss you have one that looks great. Unfortunately when he passed his website went away and all his work was lost.

Man I fly in VR so my texture settings are at medium, I can barely read any of the cockpit writing

On HP G2 ( which are VR as well ) you can see everything PERFECT even on rather low settings.

Would like to see a cockpit overhaul. Same level what was done for the Spit. That one now looks fantastic in vr. P51 cockpit is still not fully pbr. Very apparent in vr. Outside model is not so urgent imho, but would also be very nice. Still my most flown warbird.

completely agree.... I would love to see a cockpit overhaul to bring it up to the level of the Spit and Mosquito.

the P51 was updated a few years ago with a new damage model, new cockpit and external stuff. Lots of other aircraft need love too before they go back to the mustang, like the Huey, F-5E, Mi8, maybe the L39, and F86.

And we already got the F-5E!! one down to go...

I believe UH-1H was mentioned to be getting these upgrades, maybe next one. F-86 and MiG-15 need them for sure, all the old Belsimtek stuff needs it for sure. But warbirds were mentioned either.
