Remove refueling probe door

1) open Description.lua 

2) add

     custom_args = {[1616] = 1.0}

 

Is right?

Does it work in MP?

I added the line at the end of a livery i tested, it worked. Not sure about MP

as long as 1616 is in the net Sync Block it should.

if you change the stock skins in the core game folder yes

for me the door is removed when i select the liverie in ME but while in game the door still visible , is there anything else to do?

Reload the skin through the arming panel.

Yes i did it multiple times in arming panel,  this what i mean when the door is not visible in ME but i can still see it when flying

You need to load the skin through the arming panel after loading into the mission, not through the mission editor.

1. go to F-14s "Liverie" Folder
2. open "description.lua" (notepad ok)
3. add lines custom_args = { [1616] = 1.0 }
4. in game
5. call ground crew - rearms, refuel
6. select edited Liverie ( not from mission editor )

Just out of interest, is the damage modelled that can happen if the door comes off and gets injested? 

Or is this a purely aesthetic element?

The door coming off was only a concern with the Iron Maiden in first place. That's the boom to drogue adapter that, unlike a regular cloth basket, is metal, and affixed to a rigid boom and not a flexible hose. We currently don't have any tanker equipped with that piece of kit. That thing can be nasty, and it was quite easy to rip the probe clean off when trying to top off from it. With cloth baskets, it was possible to take the basket off, but damage to the probe was more rare (though still possible, if the hose whipped around).

Ahhh ok, could you imagine if they made it so the probe could be ripped off? That would be interesting for sure!

Would need actual hose physics to have even a slight chance of occurring. To make it a real concern, you'd need a USAF tanker with Iron Maiden modeled, and both physics and logic for using it.

Originally the only cats that didn´t have the door were the Iranians because their probe was different from the navy (for use the iron maiden), so this mod is more applicable to the Persian cats than to the rest.

It was common during the Gulf War, Southern Watch, Northern Watch, possibly was done during Allied Force, and during OIF/OEF, whether we have the 135's Iron Maiden currently or not. So it very much applies to "the rest".

I don’t think the Iranian F-14’s had a different fuel probe at all, especially since it’s all standardized. Fuel probe door being removed was always an option.

What's your source for this? iirc the cats that were sent to Iran were supported en-route by the 135 so requirements would dictate that they must be the same, also at the time Iran wanted lots of western equipment so again it makes sense that it would be standard fit. 

if they changed it as part of their modernisation/maintenance process (S), I doubt we'll ever have access to that information.
