I noticed since an update to the F-5 a little while back my afterburner now randomly doesn't come on.  The throttles show being all the way forward in the display, so not a controller thing.  I try moving the throttles slow or fast, same thing.  Seems like about 20-30% of the time they won't come on when the throttle is advanced to AB.  If I go to idle and back they sometimes start working again.  Interestingly enough, when I go full AB on the throttles and it's acting up my fuel flow still goes way up like they're on, but no sound of AB, no speed increase, and no flames out back.  Any ideas?  I did a full long DCS repair, no change.

That's interesting. I recognized the very same behavior in the F-16 recently. I even hear the 'clack' that the virtual throttle makes when going into AB regime but nothing happens. If I then move the throttle back below AB detent and push it again forward that works. I already thought that there is something wrong with the virtual button the VPC throttle uses for detecting the AB detent, but as I can see the throttle move in the cockpit and hear the click-sound I would assume the hardware works as intended. I'll check that with the F-5 in the next days as soon as temperatures around here allow a pleasant session in the sim.

It's an old issue. It happens if you don't pull the throttles back far enough after being in afterburner. Dunno why that is, but going from afterburner to MIL and back to afterburner can cause this. To avoid just retard the throttles a bit more after coming out of burner, and then back to MIL.

I think there is a bug as when this happens the fuel flow indicator increases like there is engagement, but the EGTs don't rise and the nozzles don't respond as they should.

Confirmed, and actually I have a track this time 🙂 I also think that even in cases where the AB lights up the sudden fuel flow increase (which stays at that increase value) occurs before the light up, resulting in engine at around MIL but operating with an increased fuel flow.
