2win_TOWR Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 I´ve tried it several times to shoot down an enemy chopper with vikhrs. They hit every time, but my target flies away with no damage. Take a look: (Airborne target ON, Target locked, Launch permission manual or Auto makes no difference) (Missile on the way and beam) (Missile hits target, aaaaaand.........) (Nothing!!!) :shocking: I can repat that little game in every daytime, at any speed, height and distance, at any environment. Always the same result. Even with 12 hits by those Vikhr´s, the chopper flies away pretty unimpressed. Whats wrong??? :helpsmilie:
159_Archer Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 I've only shot at a Mil-24, but I had no trouble killing it either with or without the air-borne target mode on. And, one hit did for it every time. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 159th Guards Aviation Regiment; recruiting now! http://www.159thgar.com/ We now fly all modern Jets and Helos
Boberro Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Dunno, When I fired to aimed helicopter, everytime I destroyed it :) Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
Ratgnagna Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 I only use the GUN in A/A mode. So easy! Too bad accurate with Vikhr. Sorry for my poor english... :helpsmilie: Bye! ;)

Flanker15 Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Have you got the missile on the right target setting? You have to tell it to explode infront or behind the target for A2A.
crazysundog Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 There is also a 'forward or rear hemisphere' aspect button/switch i believe, maybe that is the problem.... in any case read the manual.
Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Yes, don't forget to set your targeting mode to A2A tracking mode. In your screenshot, it looks like the proximity switch for the missile was set to explode nearby the target instead of direct hit.
CE_Mikemonster Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Stop it! You are spoiling the sim! ;) Too many cowboys. Not enough indians. GO APE SH*T
uhoh7 Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 I've seen both near hits and BOOM. When you see the wreakage falling you know you got him. Apaches seem to be tougher. E8600 Asus P5E Radeon 4870x2 Corsair 4gb Velociraptor 300gb Neopower 650 NZXT Tempest Vista64 Samsung 30" 2560x1600
McVittees Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 I'm in the Vikhr is useless boat. Shot an Mi-24 with one and it bounced off! Rely on guns now to do my dirty work. May be using wrong AA settings - haven't replayed or tested to see. jurinko Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 (edited) I think the Vikhr AA mode is coded in this way: since there is no real proximity fuse in Vikhr which "sees" the target, when the target is locked and the missile launched, the missile remembers the distance between own ship and target. Then it autoexplodes at some distance, which is a bit smaller than the measured distance. In case of head-on regime, the missile explodes sooner, since the ships get closer until the missile flies to the target, not to overfly and explode behind it. In normal AA mode, it explodes lets say 5m before reaching the target. But if the target flies faster than own ship and is far enough, it outdistances the missile and its explosion is too far behind, causing no harm. Also I think that even the missle is shown very close to the target just before explosion, it looks like the explosion occured far behind the target. Vikhr is no AA missle and its fragmentation effect is probably rather poor compared to dedicated expanding-rod warheads. It works from behind only. Once a friendly Mi-24 flew into the track of my Vikhr (instant mission) and despite direct side hit, it showed no damage. Edited January 5, 2009 by jurinko
DiabloSP Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 All my Vikhrs have been one-shot-one-kill launches, I can't seem to see the problem here. Are you sure you're using the correct AA mode?

It's a warhead that's smaller than that of the R-73 or sidewinder and it's not a dedicated A2A warhead either. The frag belt is meant mostly for anti-personnel effects.
