New AM5 build on the way

Yes, it would be great if you can do kind of a DCS Benchmark. One specific mission measured with both systems to see the gain. But great, I always love to build a new rig.

With all the cost involved, why 32GB only ?

That will likely NOT work with DDR5 at this stage.

My advice, check what speed your board supports with 64GB @ 2x32GB-modules and buy that as one 64GB kit.

With 4 modules, the supported speeds dump WAY DOWN at this stage of DDR5 degree of ripeness.

Good to know. Thanks, I’ll look into it.

Everything came in and put together last night.
now just waiting on GPU.

use the iGPU to install the rig and test the RAM 🙂

It will be very interesting to see how this compares to the 5900x and DDR4. Bitmaster is right there, the DDR5 does not scale well or have guaranteed compatibility when using x4 sticks as we have seen so far with Intel Z690. How it works with AMD's new design is yet to be seen as far as I know. I would have got 2x32gb sticks just to be sure.

The DDR5 show is so bad that many shops and retailers bundle 32GB-DDR5 to a AM5 Board for free, just to push the whole thing forward.

Most of the DDR5 promises made are still not here yet, neither could you do 128GB with confidence and sure no promised 256GB.

And what did they say about Volts....I see the same volts applied as with DDR4. Maybe in the server space that comes to play already.

5800X3D, 64GB DDR4 , no stress...none of those new CPU's is actuallyfaster than that AMD chip. Many reviews skip it because it would show how badly they all perform vs. the 3D chip.

Everything is installed and ready to go. Just waiting on a GPU.
I thought about putting my 6800xt in the build but I kinda want to start fresh with nvidia drivers. Don’t want any amd bits sticking around.
may sound silly, but I can still use my current rig to play till that day comes.

I usually do the same. I try to keep the base installation minimalist and then clog up virtual machines running all the rest.

Well, I have a 7900x, asus tuf x670e 32Gb of g.skill ddr5 6000 on the way.
it’ll prolly be paired with a 4090.

it’s replacing a 5900x and 6800xt.

we’ll see how it goes I guess.

i have the 5900x and 6800xt, do you run vr? il be VERY interested to see you performance comparisons and settings mate iv just switched from 4ghx 32 gb ram to 3.6 ghz 64gb, havnt even tested it in dcs yet though

Managed to snag a 4090 FE this morning with delivery on Tuesday.
what software are folks using to see the gpu/cpu frametimes?

MSI Afterburner for pancake mode. There's also payware app for VR (I'm completely blanking on the name). Not sure if DCS has a built-in one or not.

Windows 11 | ASUS B650E-F STRIX | AMD 7800X3D | G.Skill 64Gb DDR5 6200 30-36-36-48 w/ tuned secondary/tertiary | RTX 4090 undervolted curve | MSI MPG A1000G PSU | VKB MCG Gunfighter Ultimate + Rudder Pedals + WH Throttle |  HP Reverb G2

Welp, nvm.
I am having GPU crashing issues.
At idle, just sitting at the desktop, the screen will go black and the GPU fans will ramp to 100%. Monitoring specs it’s not heat or power issue. GPU is sitting at 58C, 380w. I still have sound, so it’s just the GPU. Bios updated, newest Nvidia drivers.
I dunno, some others on overclocking.com are having similar issues.

I assume that the rest of the system is working ok?  You have an old GPU to test with?

The power cable cable is correctly seated?  Some folks on reddit have mentioned that depending on the card, it can be a bit harder than they expected to get a proper connection

Silly questions, but have to start somewhere.

Sorry to hear about the issues.  Hope you can solve this.

I would Downgrade to any nvidia driver that's several months old, the last 2-3 drivers from nvidia have been total trash, making gpus use increased power draw idle and having 100% utilization at desktop and other issues.

I'm on the latest (and those before that) and i ain't seeing that. No increased idle power draw and certainly no 100% utilization at desktop.
Hearsay (or better readsay)?

Win11 Pro 64-bit, Ryzen 5800X3D, Corsair H115i, Gigabyte X570S UD, EVGA 3080Ti XC3 Ultra 12GB, 64 GB DDR4 G.Skill 3600. Monitors: LG 27GL850-B27 2560x1440 + Samsung SyncMaster 2443 1920x1200, HOTAS: Warthog with Virpil WarBRD base, MFG Crosswind combat pedals, TrackIR4, Rift-S.

Personal Wish List: A6 Intruder, Vietnam theater, decent ATC module, better VR performance!

Me neither, but I still run a 1080ti. Might be different with other SKUs
