CMS: how to select Chaff or Flare to dispense

Hello,

 

I noticed that when i dispence via the hotas, i only dispence flares, is there a way to select the kind of countermeasure i want to dispence without needing to ask Jester ?

No, the controls for that is in the RIO pit so if you don't tell Jester to do it you have to switch back and do it yourself.

whats the command ? i said to Jester to use Chaff: single but when i press the dispense, its still flare that are dispensed

You have to go to Jester position and search the Flare mode button; the button is 3 way Mult, Norm and Pilot, every position different from pilot enable the pilot to dispense chaff wile pilot position allow the pilot to dispense flare

I was actually searching for exactly that chaff/flare button before on the RIO seat, but I haven't found it yet. It should be somewhere on the top, right?

I believe right lower side with the rest of the Countermeasures setup.

and on the handle above DDD. I think these ones are quite comfortable when RIO looks behind checking 6

If you need to dispense chaff you can do it switching to Rio seat and toggle the FLARE MODE SWITCH to "norm" from the normal position "pilot"; this switch in "pilot" allow the pilot to release flare but when in "normal" for each press of the countermeasure button by the pilot one chaff is released; the problem is that you have to set this in advance to have it already set when you enter combat because is not practical to do it when already engaged.

Jester knows how to switch to pilot flares or chaff so just ask him, also if you use say voice attack or some macro, then you can switch in combat fairy well. Personally though I just set chaff program and let Jester use Chaff

Is that because you need countermeasures from radar-guided missiles way more often than from heat seekers? I've notice most ppl seem to think chaff is more useful than flares, but I'm not sure why that is...

depends against what... If you fight against like SA-3 or SA6 Chaff if deployed correctly can be effective. Against 120s not so much

The Chaff set to Auto (and a Program) let them dispense by the RWR right? I'm not sure but this seems not to work, i didn't hear them launch.
