What system did you come from? What does dcs performance monitor show (ctrl-pause) when you fly a basic instant mission in single player ?

Please no discussion about what you've read on the net, what 'should' be expected, what the effects of ram, overclocking, cooling are. Just the facts please of your own experience.

4930K @ 4.5, 32g ram, TitanPascal

Upgraded from 5600X to 5800X3D.   Mem = 32GB / 3600Mhz.   GPU is overclocked RTX 3060 (+136 Mhz).

Instant Action:  Caucasus,  Graphic Preset= High, Vsync = Off,  1440p full screen,  DCS 2.8.0.33006

TF-51: Hot Start:  Fps = 71 to 73

SU-25T: Free Flight: Fps = 76 to 78

No comparative data on the 5600X with these exact same conditions, but noticed a significant performance increase with DCS and MSFS 2020.

Additional data from the Marianas which is known to have more of an impact to the fps.

Instant Action:  Marianas,  Graphic Preset= High, Vsync = Off,  1440p full screen,  DCS 2.8.0.33006

SU-25T: Take Off:  Fps = 44 to 45

SU-25T: Air Combat: Fps = 53 to 54

I have. Its no miracle but I can now run at 90 fps smooth at 1.5 ipd with a Oculus CV1 in the Tomcat and a 3080.

Apache also runs a lot smoother but I dont have the figures, since i havent got much time to play lately.

As a working platform, its far from the best, but still an upgrade with its 2 extras cores coming from a r5 3600. Means I can run 4 extra VMs and a bunch more microservices.

As said in the other thread, CPU (or RAM) does not make the game fast alone.😎

Coming from: i7 4770K @ 4.5 (instead of 3.5), 32GB 2400 DDR3 and a GTX 1080Ti 11GB

New system: AMD 5800X3D, 64GB 3600 DDR4 and a RTX 3080Ti 12 GB

Over time, i had to lower settings step by step on my previous system to keep an overhead so i could run a fixed 60 FPS cap.
On more demanding maps (Syria, Marianas, South Atlantic) this became an issue, same for online play with a lot of players or units and when the MFD's came into play.

On the new system, no such thing, cranked up the settings again to high (not everything because i don't see the difference between some settings anyway) and the overhead over 60 FPS became much bigger, depending on the situation of course.

I don't chase numbers but one test i did was F-18 Caucasus free-flight, old system, settings on high to medium, 2560x1440 res: FPS +/- 80 to 90
New system, same settings 170 - 180 FPS (fixed cap inside the config file, didn't bother to remove this to see max FPS i could reach).

One thing i regret is the 12GB VRAM, on higher quality maps this is easily filled to max, same goes for when running VR.

My previous system was:

AMD Ryzen 5 5600X. G.SKILL TridentZ RGB Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR4 3200 MHz Cl14. from Jan 2021 (Crucial 3200MHz Cl16 previously).

My present system still in the process of being upgraded (waiting for GPU):

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X. G.SKILL TridentZ RGB Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR4 3600 MHz Cl14.

I tested both systems back to back with 3DMark Pro at 4K/MSAA X2 (Direct X 11 Fire Strike), the 5600X and 1080Ti were boosted (AMD Ryzen Master and MSI Afterburner) but the 3D system wasn't, same 1080Ti GPU.

Here are the results.

Gains-Stage-1.jpg

Obviously, the CPU works real well at 4K and keep all channels open under load, which in turn translates to better Graphics score, even the Phisics score is higher despite the 3D running 1 MGz slower than the 5600X, a Combined score of + 32% is impressive from my PoV, the cache works real well but you'll need a B-die Cl14 kit to take full advantage of it.

For comparison, my 5600X was 21% faster than the 3600X it replaced with a Crucial Cl16 3200 MHz RAM and a change from a Cl16 only resulted in a Combined gain of 1.33% Graphics and 1.35% Combined.

GSKILL.jpg

So the combination of low latency RAM and this CPU cache brings a lot of benefits at every levels. For DCS tests, I will have to wait for GPU and VR head set.

I upgraded from a 10700k to a 5800x3d.

Dcs no longer works in vr. I have a version 1 reverb g2 which has issues with am4 chipset (cable is defective and cant provide the adequate signal). Various solutions (usb hub, dongle etc) provided none or partial fixes (e.g. sound going out when working, stops working etc.) Once I get it working I will let you know.

AM4 X570(S) motherboards could have USB disconnect problems.
Should have ben solved with a BIOS update but on mine i still had problems.
I had one with MSFS where my Warthog would disconnect briefly while loading the sim (always on +/- the same loading point).
50% of the time it would disconnect briefly and show a message in the Target Script Editor that the running script was interrupted by a disconnect.
First thought it was the script but an empty one gave the same problem.
Second thought was MSFS (did not have/see disconnects on DCS/IL-2) because when i deleted the Warthog Combined profile in MSFS, the problem was gone but as it turned out only temporary.
3th was updated chipset drivers, didn't solve the problem either.
I then stumbled on a USB disconnect problem with AM4 X570(S) motherboards for which 2 workarounds where mentioned:
- Change the C-state of the CPU in the BIOS: didn't work
- Add in a PCI USB expansion card which did the trick, no more disconnects.
Then i bought a USB-C to USB-A Y cable and connected both Throttle and Stick on that cable and used the USB-C port and removed the PCI expansion card: no more disconnects.

I typically stopped using onboard USB for anything but KB/Mouse and Headset Power almost a decade ago, the integrated Chipsets always have issues.

However, it seems like the processor and bridge are changing power states from idle/lowpower to high performance, causing the USB Controller to reset.
It is a bios issue, with every AM2, AM3, AM4, AM5, LGAxxxx Chipset since the New Power States standard was introduced in like 2005.

Like you, I solved my issues by purchasing a Inateck USB3.1 Card on Amazon for $30, no more oculus issues (until recently), no more HOTAS Lag or Disconnects, no more External HDD Issues, etc etc.

There is literally an entire thread dedicated to the topic with dozens of people discussing their performance experience before and after switching. Go and read it instead of asking everyone to repeat verbatim what they've already discussed.

Mine wasn't a decade ago, but likewise. I have a massive USB 3.0 powered bank that everything is plugged into. No more issues since I did that.

As a site note, I shared this USB errors with my retired 8700k/Z370 combo with VR gear but never had any other USB dropouts that I could recall.

With the AM4/5900X/X570S I am running now I never had any USB issues..OTHER than the ages old Nvidia-MS bug that kept my old rig AND this one from going to sleep if

either my TM gear or any of the wheels is connected. That is annoying enough.

In 10 years by now with DCS I had never lost the Hotas' USB and in VR it either connected or not but never dropped it if it actually connected before.

Still, USB is a mad soup of variables.
