Hi

When I fly with only a TGP mounted (no bombs etc.) how can I switch from CCIP to CCRP mode?

I am trying to create a markpoint - but it must be set to steerpoing 21 so that I may switch between AO1, AO2 etc.

How do I do this with only a TGP mounted? TGP stuck in CCIP

Edit: Nevermind, I misread your question on the mobile phone.

Why do you want to use CCRP when you have no bombs?

Original Post:

You can use CCRP on any point, it does not require a TGP. Switch to CCRP and it will drop on your SPI, marked by the square in the HUD.

Possible ways to create a SPI without a TGP:

  • Radar cursor when radar is SOI
  • Steerpoint
  • Markpoint, created by HUD box, HMCS, radar lock
  • HTS (this is most probably not precise enough for most weapons other then CBU's)
  • manual entry of a steerpoint

Remember that every markpoint and received datalink point is a steerpoint- select it, CZ and there you go.

The other option is to DTOS and have basically the same as CCRP by marking your target in the HUD.

I guess he wants to slew the TGP to a waypoint, so he can use the TGP so scan around that position and maybe mark enemy positions or provide buddy lasing.

It's quite a good question that the OP aksed there. I'm curious as well, as I have no idea how to do that either.

Yes it is a good question,

I know I heard few times in some interviews with Viper pilots that they can input, on the SMS, page while in SIM mode as if they had weapons loaded so that the onboard computer thinks they have weapons under the wings and lets you use different bombing modes and modes related to specific weapons. That's why SIM mode is there I guess.

ED should check with SMEs if possible.

Hi

Thank you for the replies today.

I want to fly around, with only the TGP mounted, to do some reckon.

I can do this and using the 'mark points' (26 to 30) we can use the TGP to mark new coordinates and using '0' MSEL button use them as steer points.

What I am now trying to use (and struggling) are those steer points from 21 to 25, which allow one to store two additional 'offset' points AO1 and AO2.

However, I can not seem to do this or I do not know how? When flying around with TGP mounted only, can I also 'mark' points but use steerpoint 21 instead of 26, so that I can thereafter use the offset points TGT, A01, A02? Also, even if I manually input coordinates for steerpoint 21, I can step between A01 and A02 and area or point track but when I jump / cycle between TGT, A01 and A02 it does not remember what I pointed at when in A01 and A02?

Thanks-hope this makes more sense.

Yes, that is totally possible in the real jet. As long you have WoW, Master Arm to safe and Ground Jettison Enabled to off, you can "mount" anything you want. From fuel tanks to different weapon pylons to the weapons itself.

This is also how we test weapon pylons and launchers etc, after installing them onto the wings.
