Does the DCS 2023 & Beyond trailer hint at a F-14D?

Pucks interview on sunsetting the Tomcat mentioned locking the Tanker from 170nm when the APG-71 couldn't even see it.  Also the statement of "if it was flying we could see it" is a low key way of saying he saw F-117s on IRST

Yes, but they've said that it will just be the early -135GR with the TCS Pod disabled and possibly removable as well as the appropriate weapons limitations.  They aren't removing the fuel tank pylons either as those are integral to their model.  Basically, it's a bonus model they didn't originally plan to make so they aren't going to redo the entire model to make it accurate to the Iranian -A and I can't blame them given the other modules they have on their plate already.

Anyway, my point being that its not "after the ones we have."

So it shouldn't be too hard to produce a D variant for DCS then?  If it's just a glorified B, with a HUD from a Hornet and MFD's.  Both of which already exist in DCS.

Could you elaborate on the maintenance issues with the three systems you mention? I find it a fascinating subject.

You are grossly mistaken.

A. The HUD is not the standard Boeing HUD, the Sparrow-Hawk HUD Looks nothing like the Hornet HUD.
B. The Radar is Different
C. The Mission Processors are Different
D. The Stores Management is Different
E. the DFCS is Different
F. The Sensor Suites are Different
G. Even D Tomcats had Fluid Leaking Problems
H. Even D Tomcats had high maintenance hours
I. Different ECM Suite

I can go on...

D had a Kaiser hud, Sparrowhawk was the B(U) HUD that came very late before the last cruises.

Kaiser still looked nothing like boeing's hud.

I did get a bit excited when I saw that GPS dome at 4:19... but then remembered it was always there.

Then saw someone put VF-103 Jolly Rogers livery on an F-14A.

It's the default texture/skin, of all the ones GA chose for the video versus, I don't know, the pair of beautiful VF-31 jets that were added recently, I have no idea.

Heatblur guys ( @LanceCriminal86  @IronMike etc):  does the new availability of detailed technical information on the APG-70 (RDR-3, AGR-2, AGR-3, etc) thanks to the lively lads at the WarThunder forums help at all with modeling the APG-71, which Hughes created more or less by mating the APG-70 (swapping in a faster CPU) to the antenna from the AWG-9?

I'm mostly kidding :V

Having components be the same in the APG-71 as the APG-70 unfortunately tells us nothing about how the actual interface worked.

The tomcat podcast gave a good level of detail on the IRST capabilities but obviously did not have any graphics of what the instrumentation looked like in detail or switchology.

I dont think the F-14D is ever going to see the light of day in this game. Maybe some other sim in 10-20 years once its all declassed.

1 anecdote from a pilot that blew my mind (to the point im skeptical about its accuracy) was he got a solid track on a  big target (tanker maybe i cant remember now) from something ridiculous like 180 miles away! using said irst

Especially true with regards to how the APG-71 interacted with the IRST sensor.
