dburne Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 (edited) I realy wish these VR companies would just wait until headsets are ready for production and orders before making these announcements. They drag this stuff out - think Pimax Crystal that was announced same time as Varjo Aero. Got my Aero in Jan, Crystal is yet to hit the streets. I mean seriously they want to talk all about this stuff and do not even know a price yet. Phantom88 Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 I ‘m Very interested in this..As a Pimax8kx user…I crave more Clarity….but Will Not Sacrifice my Wide FOV…I also like their modular approach and No need for sneaky spying software/program running while using The HMD. 2 Patrick

Hartsblade Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 Saw this HMD pop-up alot during CES coverage. Looks promising. Phantom88 Posted March 23, 2023 Posted March 23, 2023 Not sure when they updated their website page? But this has been added.... "“Due to supply chain constraints and more complex than expected negotiations with key suppliers, Somnium Space has decided to focus its efforts fully on a PCVR headset for its first release and postpone release of a standalone version. Somnium continues R&D for a standalone version of VR1 headset and will bring more information after official release of PCVR version in 2023” Artur Sychov adds. 72Stu Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 According to Somniums X feed, SadlyItsBradley, VRFlightsimguy and VoodooDE are getting a preview headset this month. Hopefully, it meets the specs and should be a game changer. 1
72Stu Posted December 22, 2023 Posted December 22, 2023 Looks like e1799 to e1899 for the base model. TBC early next year
DavidE Posted December 23, 2023 Posted December 23, 2023 Was hoping that this would be the headset that I would buy but the very initial reviews are disappointing and in particular the price is far higher than I expected, even for the base model. Seem to be drifting with some reticence towards the Crystal. One thing that would help is to know where the UK Pimax Crystal units are shipped from and where the return would be to if I had a bad unit! Seems to be some talk re Amazon, does anyone know the current situation
72Stu Posted December 23, 2023 Posted December 23, 2023 This was the preview Somnium so lots will change before release. I must admit to being slightly disappointed, but a while to go yet.
Sile Posted December 23, 2023 Posted December 23, 2023 (edited) 1900 € (excl. tax?) for the base model without a headstrap… So I‘m approaching 3000 € if I need eyetracking and want to be able to wear it? Uhhh.. I was hoping for <2.000 € incl. tax for a model with eye tracking (and headstrap!!). Edit: Oh and no inside out tracking so 1-2 tracking base stations (approx. 150 € each) needed. Edited December 23, 2023 by Sile
eFirehawk Posted December 23, 2023 Posted December 23, 2023 I had the hopes that I could retire my Crystal with the VR1, given how unsatisfied I am with everything it has except the very good, clear ( but definitely not edge-to-edge ) sweetspot. Oh well. Guess I'm gonna be stuck with it for a while longer. Pentium II 233Mhz | 16MB RAM | 14.4kb Modem | 1.44MB Floppy Disk Drive | Windows 3.1 with TM Warthog & TrackIR 5
winghunter Posted December 23, 2023 Posted December 23, 2023 Thats just too much for what it offers. And you might have even more software troubles than with a Pimax. Something smaller manufactures often struggle with. BazzaLB Posted December 29, 2023 Posted December 29, 2023 Doesn't sound great if you ask me. It sits way too far out in front. Anyway, here's another "preview"
MAThrasher Posted December 29, 2023 Posted December 29, 2023 When I saw a video last week, I was discouraged with the progress. I thought they would be further along than they are. I am no expert, but I would be shocked if anything is shipped from production before the middle of next year. Unless there is a HMD coming that I don't know about, I will continue being happy with the Aero for the next several months. Windows 11, GPU: RTX-4090, Ram: 32gb, CPU: 12700k, Headset: Varjo Aero
Dogmanbird Posted January 12, 2024 Posted January 12, 2024 In someone's TTL photos from a month back, unfortunately it didn't look like it would have the edge to edge clarity of the Q3 or QPro if they use the pre production lenses
