Hello everyone,

This is basically a much more general wish to ED. But also I am asking community about this idea. Maybe I am totally wrong with it, or I was just making very unpopular contributions so far.

I am missing (more) feedback from ED to the wishes.

My feeling about ideas, is, that I have no feeling at all. There are many good ideas out there, and I don't see, whether they have been taken into account, or have even been seen at all. Example: Mission Editor wishes. You have to navigate to page 4, to see the first "labeled" wish, and it's "not planned". All other remain "untouched"?

I am aware of the fact, that there are way to many to ideas, and they are varying enormously in complexity, to rank all of them. However, at DCS World I see a much more contructive community than in other games. I believe there are technical ways to let all these clever people do some of this ranking in first place. No matter how you implement it technically (forum or something else), I like the idea that every one who makes a (well describred) wish, has to rank at least 5 other wishes. Doing so, this would lead to a good pre-filtering and finding popular ones, so that ED-guys wouln't have to go through all of them.

Regards
Limaro

I don’t know why, but there are many dcs users that seem to believe that an "idea" for a feature is the hardest part of implementing a new dcs feature .. its not, the developer themselves can easily generate such ideas all by themselves … the hard part is actually coding the feature … that’s the hard one, and it’s the one requiring developer’s man-hours … the "idea"  itself is almost trivial in comparison.

I can empathize with the OP. I can see where it would be nice to have a list or similar from ED of the things they have picked from our wishes, as well as their own that they would like to implement, or are at least interested in. Yes, many are harder to actually implement of course, even really good ones. Some aren’t good ideas at all.  But It definitely feels, at times, that these wishlists are really pointless and end up going nowhere, except starting a good argument or two lol I often wonder If ED actually reads these and/ or takes any into actual consideration. On the other hand a list from ED can/ will end up with a whole lot of” when can we expect this”, “release date?”, “you promised this and that”. I could see the reluctance.

Agree, I also have had my fair share of "ideas" and most go nowhere as you say, even if I always try to propose items that seem easy to implement, for example:

It's not possible to answer to every wish by ED and it was never intended to be interactive, so don't expect it to be. They informed us before that they do read all the wishes though. They also have wishes of their own. Many of the modules and other additions to DCS are also someone's wish come true. Many wishes are also planned or WIP. ME is constantly improved. They probably already do some filtering on the wishlist with data like number of answers, participants and likes but remember that it's just the wishlist - no promises are made here and rarely the answers are given.

I think that these are very good points. Indeed Ideas are a dime a dozen. Implementing them is the hard part. And yet, voicing them can still be helpful in many ways - they can inform ED how a rather select group (anyone on this forum, a self-selected group of enthusiasts) of people feel about certain features, and the general direction in which some of these people would like DCS to develop. They can highlight pain points and opportunities. And they can be incubators for new ideas.

Now, we are hardly a representative group of DCS players, much less the majority. In other words, although vocal, these ideas may be neither new, good, nor relevant. But we are here for a common important interest: the well-being of DCS and ED.

While there definitely are way too many posts and ideas floating around at any given day, I feel that ED is maybe missing an opportunity to better engage with their community: maybe not on the basis of individual ideas, but I'm sure that some (any?) feedback on a regular basis about what is being talked about and where we are going would be most welcome. In the absence of any guidance whatsoever, people simply assume or assert whatever they feel like (well, ok, they'll do that anyway, but I assert that this happens more often when there's no moderating influence), giving unnecessary rise to resentment and a feeling of abandonment.

I believe that all ideas posted here are made in good faith, and the will to improve an already fabulous product. What's missing is some form of feedback that shows better how much our love and dedication to ED and DCS is appreciated, understood, and that it is welcome.

I am fully aware of that. And my proposal and initial post was not about to ask ED to answer to everything. Not at all.
-> My suggestion was to take load away from ED and instead, move an important part of the work back to the community. Subsequently, having this primary work done, ED can more easily see what's important for the community. And the people suggesting things, too!! That would be motivating even more. And, just a guess, it would reduce the amount of multiple equal wishes.

And then it would be nice, when the best ideas get some official Feedback from ED.

Maybe the title wasn't well chosen.

Of course they wouldn’t be able to reply to all, that would be a waste. I’ve always thought that even the poll kind of things would be nice, like the hornet page.If the wishlist had its own polls.  Here’s a list, so far, of things we’d like to implement based on our ideas and the community, that are feasible. Everyone gets to vote on the top few  things they find most appealing and progress moves onward. That of course would need to be published across all of their media outlets, since I’m sure a great number of players aren’t active on here , maybe more hassle than it worth.

I think your idea is good as well,  if the community had an actual way to vote on the ideas in the wish list, it could be an easier indicator than basing it off of replies or hearts, most of which trail off the initial subject anyway, or end up with people arguing to no resolve lol Up-vote a good idea , down-vote a ridiculous one,  then discuss amongst yourselves as you will. There is so many good ideas , that just seemingly get lost in the mix, a way to prioritize them amongst the community could be beneficial.

For instance in the ME( mind you I almost never use it). Lots of requests by people to drag a box around a group to select them all.. I honestly I don’t know how this isn’t a thing in 2023.. but I’ve yet to see any ED acknowledgment on the subject that the voice has even been heard, even though to me it seems like a very important and basic feature. At least we could all vote on the subject to reflect the importance. <— just a random example

But ED does ED. It’s their company and that is fine too.

Off course they read and listen to wishes, some of those are doable some are not yet doable or not at all doable, then if a whish is doable it ends up somewhere on the priority list, and if it is not a hard task to do it, it is done first and someone can say his/her wish came true, other wishes that are very complex and take time to do are being done and we just have to be patient and wait.

The problem ED has with replying to these wishes is that people that wish for stuff will take that grain of sand (EDs reply) and make an elephant out off it, then it will escalate etc etc. Or maybe they are working on some plane/heli or feature we are wishing for but don't want to reveal their plans too early since projects may fail and then they got their user base disappointed, so better to keep quiet till they are ready.

I just made a few examples but there are tons of reasons why they keep quiet, and I don't mind them doing that cause I completely understand.
