pauldy Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 I dunno if this has been mentioned already or if i missed it on the FAQ but.. Are the DCS expansions (or modules) require the very first DCS Black Shark Software? or will the succeeding products will be stand alone? Just a thought in my mind because i think i'm getting interested in upcoming A-10C. :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Weta43 Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 The plan at the moment is that they will be 'stand alone', but previous modules will be upgradeable to the standard of the latest module. Cheers.
pauldy Posted January 26, 2009 Author Posted January 26, 2009 So, for example, I buy black shark then A-10 arrives. I can just install it on DCS Black shark and have two high fidelity aircraft ? :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

pauldy Posted January 26, 2009 Author Posted January 26, 2009 Ok, correct me if i'm wrong but, Is there a limit in the amount of installs for the DCS programs? This is quite important since Lock On had a "not so good" track record on me in terms of installs. I encountered problems the would ultimately require uninstalling the whole program.. You can install and uninstall BS as often as you want, as long as your computer or os doesn't change, you only need to activate it once the first time you install. If you plan to upgrade anything, there are 10(?) deactivations for every activation. So you deactivate, upgrade, activate again and you do not loose one activation. *yay* 400 posts *yay* Edited January 26, 2009 by sobek Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! miguez Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Hi pauldy, Check here for the info on activations/deactivations.
Sunjah Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 I had a problem the 2nd night I had DCS (my fault) and I just reinstalled. Then, I had a problem with a 3rd party software and had to reinstall twice. Does that mean I have used four of my eight activations? Is there a spot where you can see what you have left? I did all this before I really realized that there was a limit. Basically, I don't see myself changing this computer much at all, so I don't think I will need to reactivate, but I am just curious on how it works. I have read the posts, but am still not completely clear whether mine falls in the "You don't need to uninstall (so no activations used) for a reinstall" or "You used up 4 activations (1 original, 1 my problem, 2 for the 3rd party software)." Help from an ED Team member would be greatly appreciated! Remember, on Nov. 4th, vote for Black Shark for President!!!

Does that mean I have used four of my eight activations? no Is there a spot where you can see what you have left? yes, when you activate, theres a screen that tells you when your activation was successful and how many activations you have left You don't use up an activation just by de and reinstalling the program AFAIK 1 Good, fast, cheap. Sunjah Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Is there a way to check your activations while NOT using one of them? I think I am good and still have 7, but would like to know how to check. Any ED Team guys, I'd love to hear your answers when you get a chance. Remember, on Nov. 4th, vote for Black Shark for President!!!

pauldy Posted January 27, 2009 Author Posted January 27, 2009 ok, so this online activation thing only occurs in Download versions? Basically i prefer hard copy CD/DVD versions for my PC games~ :) and if I have DVD of DCS Black Shark, it's mostly likely to be the same as Flamming Cliffs? (CD check of a protection system) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
miguez Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 and if I have DVD of DCS Black Shark, it's mostly likely to be the same as Flamming Cliffs? (CD check of a protection system) No. Check here.
pauldy Posted January 27, 2009 Author Posted January 27, 2009 that would suck if i have no internet connection on the day i install ~ :( (my ISP's unreliable most of the time~) oh well~ :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Rimmer Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 (edited) So, does this mean that I will have to pay another $50.00 bucks for the next chopper or whatever craft is next? If thats the case I'll be going broke quick. :pilotfly: Edited January 27, 2009 by Rimmer
sobek Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 So, does this mean that I will have to pay another $50.00 bucks for the next chopper or whatever craft is next? If thats the case I'll be going broke quick. :pilotfly: There has been no word on the pricing policy for future modules IIRC but i assume that customers who already purchased a module might get some kind of discount, but don't take that for granted. Even if there was no discount, i believe we can all agree that it would be worth the full price. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
159th_Viper Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 If thats the case I'll be going broke quick. :pilotfly: Well - you have an absolute minimum of 9 months between modules (Realistically 12-15)........Sooooooo........a saving of a Fiver a month will have you good to go and with change left! ericinexile Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Don't worry about ED. They survived Yeltsin, Clinton, Putin, Bush, Chechnya, Georgia, Microsoft 95, 98, ME, XP (sp 1, 2, and 3), Vista (sp win 7), Falcon 4, IL2, NATO expansion, EU expansion, Bush (did I already mention that one?), 9/11, Afganistan (ours), Ama...Ama...dina...jah...Ama (ah what the hell is that guy's name!?), Turkey dissing the Ka50, Iraq 2, three years of anxious Black Shark anticipators, Cheney, Blair, Chirac, Ubisoft, Starforce, and us. 1 Smokin' Hole My DCS wish list: Su25, Su30, Mi24, AH1, F/A-18C, Afghanistan ...and frankly, the flight sim world should stop at 1995.

I would imagine the unprotected exe for FC and BS and any other protected exe would be released in that event. But I can't see it happening, ED is owned by The Fighter Collection, who don't look like they are too short of cash. pauldy Posted January 27, 2009 Author Posted January 27, 2009 ok, that's the day i'd fear~ No Eagle Dynamics, No Activation, No Game~ yet i payed for it~ :( Sorry but i think we can never guarantee what the future holds for ED~ Much like any company, anything bad could happen to them~ Hope there are other alternatives around when that happens :smilewink: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
GGTharos Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 If it didn't ask you to put in your key, you haven't used activations, AFAIK.
