The counter-measure is on the opposite side from where we have it, too. The Black Box is what has me wondering, I went to the site and it is "cut-out" of every shot. Hmm, what could it be? Quite interesting stuff!!!

Remember, on Nov. 4th, vote for Black Shark for President!!!

A number of Ka-50's have flown with a number of configurations. They're not, or at least were not, all the same.

And no, it isn't an RWR, so your shorts are safe.

Its the new super-secret standby Hula indicator!! I knew reading all those Tom Clancy novels when I was a kid would pay off! Wags is the real former Spook though so I wanna hear what he thinks it is. And yes I know "loose lips sink ships" so a sarcastic answer will suffice.

Its a jammer with an on/off switch and different levels. :)

I'm guessing you mean the black box at the right?

What does the the light blue box and the black box the the left of that one do then not to mention the big black hole in the picture?

Nah.. it's the setting for the vibrating massaging seat.

For those long flights where the behind get stiff.

Settings are OFF, mild, medium, heavy and diarrhea. Quite effective russian massaging systeme.

Nice find! save it before they edit that one to.

On a serious note: Since the ka-50 modeled in DCS is a earlier common variant, I wonder if that has anything to do with FLIR and night flying?

That could be true, but nothing is visible on the outside for that... (Doesn't the Ka-52 have night capabilities?)

By the way, I'm backing up that entire website, with pictures of many other aircrafts and vehicles, just in case :music_whistling:

Yeah I took a second look through the gallery and didnt see the tell-tale FLIR-turret on the nose. I did a quick compare and contrast but couldnt find anything that wasnt on the exterior of the ka-50 modeled in DCS. I did notice the 2 red nose plugs on either side and am wondering about their function. In-Sim you will notice a silver dot on either side of the nose, maybe they are the laser warning recievers. I dunno, any one got any better ideas?

The device at the top of the cockpit is a "bolt-on" remote control for a "bold-on" VCR, used to record video from a camcorder "bolted" behind the pilot's shoulder, as seen here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0kOfRaTsYs

The device "bolted" (:tomato:) to the HUD is probably a controller/indicator for the electro-optical missile warning and jamming sensors tested on this airframe ("25 yellow") in 2004-2006.

"25 yellow" has been used extensively as a testbed and none of the above devices are standard to production airframes, to the extent that anything is really standard on any Ka-50.
