Perhaps too heavy due to the external tanks? but still, this shouldn't be happening.

AI Apache with external tanks doesn't take off, but goes into a low hover and stays there.

Simply run the attached mission to see the problem (if you accelerate time, it'll take less than a minute)

Fwiw: tested on latest/current OB version

@BIGNEWY or @NineLine: can you please acknowledge and report this to the team, as currently this bug broke the first mission of my REDSKINS campaign.

For what I understand from AH64 performance tables it's above max gross weight to perform a "normal take off" for that given conditions:

Airfield elev: 2205

temp: 20°C

GW: 21316

I'm not an helo guy, but some useful info on that could be found from page 126 and 232 and 235 of its DCS Flight Manual.

About the AI behavior I'm not sure if there are some DCS limitations about all of this that are limiting the possibility to perform a rolling take off instead.

Tnx for taking time to respond @pokeraccio

I trust your sources, but currently it's just very poorly implemented AI behavior. Or ED should at least help its users to detect if loadout weight (be it due to weapons or fuel), in combination with the set weather conditions, is out of bounds. Pretty sure this is done with other modules by showing total weight in red numbers (but I might have dreamt that).

Right now, in the loadout screen you don't see any "red flags", load the mission, AI taxi's to the active runway, for some reason performs a hover take off instead of a rolling take off, and then just stays in a low hover indefinitely. That's just silly.

That's strange for sure, having the AI the possibility to perform a rolling take off on that runway.

that's should be very handy for mission makers

march 2nd post, those are the only public released perf tables we have.

If you do not have them please find them attached (converted jpg for kneeboard usage)
